new to cliosport with a project

  clio 172
ive just purchased a clio 172 with the aux belt wrapped around the crank pulley for a little over 700 the car was in the same family from new and i was wondering have i done the right thing after reading these posts about cowboys and timing on the f4r i am very mechanically minded and i think i have the tools to fit a new secondhand lump but any feedback from you guys would be much appreciated as im hoping to start along relationship with this hot hatch witch is something ive never had with a car as ive always had 4 or 5 a year incl high performance turbos and im thinking the f4r and the 1050 kilo frame has lots of potential for a project thanks

lol thanks should i attempt a rebulid or go for second hand lump and rebuild my removed lump ?? im thinking of going turbo or supercharged after the festive period is over so shall i put all money into the lump i got and not get another or get another to have a feel for the car before chucking a whack at it straight off

Not sure it's financially sensible to rebuild a broke f4r. I could be wrong but itd probably be cheaper to drop a new lump in.

And if you're after a long relationship with the car I wouldn't charge it. Forced induction owners build and then sell on after 6 months. With the exception of a few.

However, if you do replace the engine why not drop a meg 225 lump in and ignore my previous comment :p

If your handy with the spanners the first thing you should be doing is seeing what the damage is by whipping the head off.

Bottom end might be totally fine.

If you're going to go big-boost then maybe it would be worthwhile upgrading the internals whilst you've got a duff engine to rebuild.

What that would entail, no idea, search on here for some owners who can point you the right way

thanks i may get a unit for 650 deliverd with short wtee and rebuild old unit even if it has minimal damage think i will rebuild with uprated cams and valves and springs n pully upgrade then flywheel and clutch and exhaust for the moment with new engine map then focus on bottom end with turbo/supercharger and brakes
