New to this - advice

i want me a camera

i want slr and tripod to take nice pics

i know the nikons go got £400ish notes

but what slr camera will do me for a 1st timer

i cant see me spending 400plus on camera and len's but what can i get for what money

advice on what will do the job and fancy shots

Im not too familiar with the entry level SLRs, but I would recommend either a Nikon or Canon.
Have a look at the D40, which I think is the cheapest Nikon. I dont know what the equivalent canon is as I know nothing about canons (apart from they're not as good as Nikons! :rasp
