wow, thats interestering, nice post, i didn't know. thanks, its good value, esp for the GT version at 150bhp, sounds a bargain

I guess the reason they've done this as the midpoint rather than a TDI is because with a set of coilovers and a remap it'd be beasting 197s.. Shame.

It sounds good, but with the Renault dealers around our way, I dont have a cat in hells chance of getting a test drive being as they won't even get a 1.6 Dynamique S in for people to drive. The more I look at the new Clio though, the less I like it.
I really have been put off by the new steering too.

I was looking at the proposals for the Twingo, but so far it appears they only intend it to be a 1.2. That's a shame as it does rather take my fancy. I bet it won't look anywhere near as good when put into production though. It seems Renault have strayed off the track slightly ( pardon the pun), and are going for the people mover look, not a look I care for that much. I think I will be keeping my 1.6 Dynamique + for a while yet , unless of course Renault come out with something amazing, but I won't be holding my breath.
 
They won't put too big a lump in the RS Twingo cos it would probably be better than the 197 then (being based on the previous generation Clio and all ;) )

I think you are probably right there. To be given a choice would be good though. I guess it will have the same new steering system, which is abit of a put-off as far as I am concerened, but I guess only a test drive would really make up my mind for me. I wouldn't consider anything less than a 1.6 now though. Maybe they will upgrade it if it looks like it will be popular. ;)

I think most people will agree that the 1.9 dci would've been a better move for the gap between the RS and the Dynamiques.

What's the point in this one ??? A few more bhp and mph over the 1.6 ???

tbh the 197 feels like it has about 138bhp anyway, so funk knows what this will feel like.

Is it actually that bad ?

Is it the illusion or perhaps the fact it doesn't rattle (I wouldn't know)..

I am tempted to go have a play in one, but if it's really piss poor, what's the point.

The one I drove was utterly gutless coming from a 182. You're coming from a diesel so remember to hold the gears past 3000rpm. You might even enjoy it! ;)

i drove a 197 and thought it was ok tbh. Are they using a down tuned F7R in this one? cuz that'll mean that most probably with some simple mods ull have the 197hp.
 
Thing is Roy I bet the 197 you tested was still tight as a nuns chuff. What was its mileage? Coming from a well run in 182 is perhaps a little unfair.

Not really, autocars test was done on new cars (about 1500 miles) and that confirmed the 197 is nearly 2 secs slower to 100, from my test drive of one the difference seemed bigger than that. As ive said before though overall the 197 is a far superior car

Hubby and I were studying a picture of a 197 the other day. He said the more he looked at the rear the more it reminded him of the Ford KA. I hadn't really thought about it before, but I think he's right, it bloody does look like a KA from the back. The more I look at the new Clio's the less I like them. I think they are pretty ugly if you compare them to the older Clio's.

I have read many reviews by people who have test driven the 197, and from what has been generally said about them, if I was going to buy a RS I would rather go for a nice 172 or a 182. I think they look loads nicer and meaner too. Each to their own I suppose, but the 197 is definitely not for me!

Me neither. I think it's ugly. I do rather like the look of the Twingo though, although I bet it won't look anything like the concept car when put into production. It's a shame they are only going to do a 1.2 at this stage too, otherwise I might well consider one if it drives nicely. I would have to be bloody good though for me to consider selling my 1.6!

Looks like quite an interesting car but to be honest I'm not keen on that new Clio, especially the price, £12.5k is what I paid for my old Clio 172!!

The RS Twingo sounds like an interesting idea but it will be designed to fit into a certain price/performance bracket so it won't compete with the other RS Models.

Twingo RS - £10-12k
Clio RS 197 - £15k+
Megane RS 225 - £20k

Now a if Renault did a Twingo V6, that would be something very special.

Wonder what they'll go for after the 197? Whens the Cup one coming out? Is it actually gonna be that much better?

Interesting to see what they'll better the 225 with aswell

Cups due out later next year.

The engine won't be a detuned 197 engine its the old 2.0 so no fancy stuff no remap etc will get it to 197hp most lily best way to do it is to use a 172 head etc with cams and intake work.
