New User, Clio Info Please

Hi, just joined the forum tonight, anyway, reason I joined is I am about 99% certain of getting a Clio mk2 ph2, currently have a 2002 '51' Pug 206 which I am hacked off with as it has 5 doors and the amount of rattles and squeaks the car has developed for a 5yr old and 35K miles car are phenomenal.

was considering a corsa being as I used to be a vauxhall man, but the clio looks a lot better and the spec is much better than the corsa.

basically looking at round about a 03 or 53 plate, hopefully the 53 as it has nicer alloys and front bumper but we'll see whats about in my budget.

firstly, its the Dynamique or a car with roughly the same spec, firstly just wondered, whats the difference between a Dynamique, a Billabong and a "Extreme" trim level as all 3 look identical outside to me.

secondly, I've been told the Dynamique + (Plus) has air con and an electric sunroof on top of standard Dynamique spec, is this true, and why cant I seem to find any 1.2 16v Dynamique + (Plus) models about nor can I find any Dynamique + (Plus) models in 03 or 53 plate reg at all even with a 1.4 or 1.6 engine fitted.

also, do all Dynamiques regardless of age/year have automatic headlights and wipers, alarm system, heated mirrors and trip computer?

lastly, what colours does the clio come in apart from the following which dont take my fancy: Black (a no go for me as I'm a car valeter and black cars are a pain in the rip for cleaning/paint damage), Silver (too common), cyclone blue (also too common), yellow/gold (dont like), cherry red (dont like red cars) and the kinda adriatic blue shade (too common also)

any info much appreciated.

You have to remember spec chnaged all the time the exteme when from being the same as a dynamique but with a CD player (although 99.99% of Dynamics when it wasn't stock had upgraded to the CD player) then it went to a low spec then went high again then went back to low spec.

Billbong is the same as dynamic but with a CD player it has a few stickers and quite a strong seat colour which isn't to all tastes.
Dynamic plus yep had air con but it was only on the 1.6/1.6/dci 80 models that it existed on. The spec was sort of usles less as less since most later cars had the bits as standard. plus many sellers don't know what cars there selling anyway.

aye I'm pretty sure the 03, 53, and 04 plate Dynamiques my work have for sale (I work for Arnold Clark) have the crappy tilting sunroof but also have air con.

tbh air con doesnt bother me as I've never had it and never missed not having it. ideally I want a 1.2 16v as its just as quick as my 1.4 8v 206 but cheaper insurance and running costs, but preferably a Dynamique + (Plus) so I can have the tilting and sliding and electric sunroof over the crappy poverty tilting rear 1 only, except I dont think they ever made a 1.2 Dynamique + (Plus) and after about 02 the Dynamique + (Plus) was discontinued IIRC.

any1 confirm that.

lee - is the clio really rattly? is it as bad as the 206 lol finally some1 who understands and believes me when I say 206s rattle like hell, most folk think I'm just being anal retentive.

im the worst for rattles, if a noise appears i end up selling lol

My 206 rattled like hell too, annoyed the hell outta me, but ive had 2 previous peugeots, 306's which were fine, so its all based on what car you get.
Unfortunantly the clio is french, so yeh you may get the odd noise, just test drive it first to make sure.

The other option is to upgrade the speakers and turn them up full whack ;) does the job nicely

first point - that sounds like me, its 1 of the reasons I'm getting rid, all the rattles.

second point - I test drove the 206 first and it had 1 rattle which didnt really bother me as it was only the 1 and not as noticeable as the ones I have now, in the 5months I've had it its got worse and worse, theres now about literally 12 different rattles/squeaks which werent present when the car was bought, convinced dealers must somehow make rattles disappear till you buy the car cos I very much doubt the car only started rattling when I bought it and was rattle free for 4.5 years before that, but like I say wasnt rattling when i bought it.

alls I need now is to find a colour I like the clio in enough to buy 1, and find a good low miles FSH example and I'm sorted.

You're better off loing for a standard 1.2 16v clio dynamiqe, 05 onwards cameas standard with the auto lights and wipers, trip computer, elec windows and mirrors (heated mirrors an rear window) the better alloy wheels an colour coded al round - they do unfortunately come with the tilt/slide sun roof so as advised you're gona want to invest in some new speakers if you go for that model cause the tilt sunroof gives a hell of a rattle after a while.

All Dynamics realy even as far back as 51 plate have the auto lights and wipers computer windows and mirrors plus heated plus sunroof . As for the alloys thats down to person choice there no better though realy.

optional extras to look out for are Xenon front lights, you can tell it has them by actually looking at the bulb to see if its one of the big round ones (sure someone has a pic they could show you) or by the fact that it will have headlight washers.

Climate control i think was a £800 extra or something im sure i read somewhere not sure id pay £800 for it but when the cars 2nd hand it doesnt affect the price too much so worth looking out for too.

my mates got a 53 plate flame red dynamique with electric sunroof & climate so they do exist!

both electric sunroof and manual creak and rattle.

imho the Ph2 alloys are nicer than the PH3 ones (i had PH3 ones and went back to PH2 as i prefer them) same goes for the front bumper.

id avoid the Extreme and billabong. they come with nasty coloured seats that stain VERY VERY easy and look tatty after a while. the dynamique has a much nicer interior and is higher spec than the newer Extreme models.
