New172 cup owner - Cheltenham

Picked up myself a 172 cup (CC) yesterday and so begins my first venture in to 172 ownership. Basically I needed something for my short hop to work and that could at a later date have some track potential. Previous car was a Leon Cupra and it's a bit of step down in terms build quality, but I am hoping the driving experience and engine make up for it.

The first question is what garages can people recommend in the Cheltenham area? Against all the rules I bought the car in some of the most horrendous weather yesterday and in the cold light of day there are a few things to address.

Stuff to do

# Brakes - Pretty much non existent. The disk looks like it needs doing along with pads.
# Service is due in book - Guy said he had a mate doing a service, but I'd want done again for my peace of mind.
# Tyres - Looks like there has been a repair on one of the side walls and they are all mismatched
# Ride height - In my eyes it sits too low at the back. So need to get that sorted, possibly new original springs or more suitable springs if they have been replaced.
# It also needs a new drivers front wing as its got a chunk missing - This can wait until the mechanicals have been done.

So there you go. A bit of a frustrating to start. Some of the stuff I picked up on some I didn't until today. The joys of a new car.

Hi and welcome.

Garages in Cheltenham... You have Cooksport who have just moved up the road to Tewkesbury. My GF has also used Surefit in Quedgley for basic troubleshooting.

Welcome,

Cooksport in Tewkesbury, Trade n Save Gloucester or M&N in Nympsfield. All know Renaultsport stuff well

  German V6
Welcome!

If you're after tires and you want something cheap for the time being try ATS in kings ditch.

ah yea for tyres I know a guy local who can come to you to do them and get pretty much anything you want, really good prices.

This keeps coming up on CS lately. I'm fairly certain it won't have the wrong springs on it, the rear looks lower than the front on a Cup on standard springs.

Welcome to CS.

For brakes go for Ferodo DS2500 pads all round and Brembo high carbon front discs. K Tec racing sometimes have them on offer as a set. If you intend using it for a track car as well as on the road get some tyres that double up as road and track rubber like Toyo R1-R's or Federal 595-R. They can be ordered from Camskill or Demon Tweeks. Servicing wise, make sure the cambelt etc has been done.

Personally for brakes i would go for brembo oem pads and brembo HC discs for road use and at a later date if you want to track it get ferodo DS2500/3000's. No point spending £130~ on road pads IMO.

Got the car back from Josh at Cooksport today and they have done a superb job. Sorted out loads of suspension issues, gave it a service and fitted some new boots. The car is even running some Cooksport springs now too. The first drive was night and day compared to how it drove before. Josh was fantastic too at giving genuine advise and feedback in what was a pretty quick turnover in the end. Highly recommended.
