just look out for the obvious as if you were looking at any other car! Check the cam/aux belts have been changed. Also check the exhaust as ive heard they fall to bits.
As far as reliability i was abit reluctant to by one myself. i use mine everyday to comute and i can honestly say its been faultless over the year ive had it. Sods law it will break down tomorrow lol.
had mine 3 almost 4 years and its never let me down, in fact only once did it not start and that was cause the battery died. Don't rush into buying the first one. 6k will get you a nice one you can have mine for 5500 haha artic is best when clean
Just bought a 182 last week after a long time researching and looking for a good one. I found the guides section on here absolutely brilliant there's one which lists through all of the common problems to look for which really helped when looking them over in the flesh.
I got a Titanium 182 FF 04 in Mint condition with 31k on the clock and the renault 6 cd changer, both belts done last month, full renault and renaultsport specialist (for the belts) service history, 4 brand new Michelin Pilot xaltos for just under 6k. I bought from Steve Murr on here who only sells RS cars, worth giving him a PM to see if he has anything suitable.
When I was looking I was interested in buying a 182 for around 6k which would leave me with a year-ish of cheap motoring. Key things I looked for were the belts to have been done as this is around a £500+ job and also for decent tyres as I've been told the Exalto's are £80-90 a corner, plus full renault (or RS sepcialist) service history with no gaps or inconsistencies. I thinks if you look for one with a f.r.s.h then you know that whoever's had it has paid handsomely for the servicing and if they're willing to do this then it's a fair bet they have looked after other areas of the car.
I found that colour seems to have a large effect on price if you want a Liquid Yellow (these are up for around 7-7.5k) for the same spec as the Titanium one. And unless you are very patient I'd give up on the Petrol Blue idea as there are only 19ish in the country!
Stumpy the tenner is well worth it the guides saved me far more than that and stopped me buying a 182 which looked good at first glance but needed a fair amount spent to get it where I'd want it.
