Newbie Clio V6 question

My first post so I will take this opportunity to say hello to everyone and say what a great forum you have.

I am thinking about buying the V6 and I would be really gratefull if someone could help me with a few questions.

In deciding between a the mark 1 & 2 besides obviously price is the mark 2 really that much better? The journalists seems to say so but what do the important people namely the owners think?

Secondly the car would be used for everyday use. Is that fesable, I have done 22,000 miles since March. What are the realities for stowage, can you do the shopping and go on holiday etc. are there any tips on fitting stuff in the car?

I have fallen in love with the look and sound of this beast and so any answers / tips or comments for this newbie would be great.

Cheers.

bugger the shopping and holidays mate!

deffo get a mk2

sorted out a few dodgy issues, tis more powerfull and it looks 10x better...

not that i would turn my nose up at a mk1

If it was up to me mate I would never go shopping but her in doors might disagree:) and I would have to go on holiday to make the most of those scotish and welsh roads :devilish:.

I dont honestly see any real difference in looks other than the fact that the mk2 has a lot of cheap looking black plastic on its front bumper. IMO the mk1 shades it on looks because of that fact.

It can be used as an every day car and if you only plan on using it on the road there isnt much difference between mk1 and mk2 as far as handling and performance.

The differences (unless using on a track) are not that important.

Basically; you should definitely get one. The only deciding factor is how much you want to spend; £24k for a mk2 or around £16k for a mk1.

When I recently bought my Mk1, the seller was kind enough to let me have a blast in his MY53 Mk2. Because it wasnt mine I obviously didnt go Tiff-style round any corners but here are my thoughts on the differences...

The mk2 has a slightly throatier sound to the engine when pushed.

The mk2 has a nicer gearbox, its shorter-throw makes for a nicer changing action. The ratios feel better too.

The mk2 is quicker, but its only 25bhp with 40kg extra weight, so it wouldnt exactly leave a mk1 in its dust (but it would win ;))

As for looks, the mk2 looks sharper and newer, as it would, but theyre not very different apart from the front and the interior.

Personally Id say if youre buying it for the looks, the sound and the reward of owning such a unique car, go for the mk1 and save ££££ on depreciation. If having the latest look or the better handling (will you take it to the track?) is your thing, then pay the extra.

And errrr...practicality? the boots massive, you could probably fit a 3 litre engine in there :p

Thanks guys thats great. I have checked out those threads and they answer the question about stowage. Thanks to miketheman2k for the comparison that is really usefull. I look forward to letting you know when I select the car.

I didnt realise the colour made such a diff to the speed:p

Ive heard the xenon lights are better on the MK2 ? £27k is worth it if you can actually see were youre going at 64.9 mph.
