Newbie in Newcastle - Had a Clio, thinking of a Sport!

Morning all!
Been looking around auto trader and piston heads and have found mk2 ph2 172s and 182s for decent prices with low mileage. However:

I used to have a 1.2 mk2 ph2 Clio which ended up getting scrapped. It needed thousands spent to get it through an MOT, There was always something wrong with it and it was a complete shed.

This is her when polished:

apologies for the massive photographs!

Obviously this has put me off a clio sport as I'm assuming they will have the same build quality as my clio, and i cannot be bothered to have a car which is haemorrhaging money and parts.

However i loved my clio, and even the 1.2 was lovely and nippy at times, can only dream of what a 172/182 is like!

So people: please tell me what there like, and wether they will fall apart like my little car did :(. And Also, i have ALOT of parts left from the clio when it got scrapped!

Cheers:

Dec!

lol.

Bearing in mind every other forum i'm on I've been welcomed properly, Currently an admin on a local VW forum too, and I've banned people for less than that.

If this is the type of c**t i am going to find on cliosport.net then i'm not going to bother even posting here.

1.2s dont tend to be the most reliable of the clio range, the 172/182s can cost alot of money so you need to buy a good example in the 1st place with all the belts done and full service history. Obviously get an insurance quote 1st.

Hi Deckie, I'm guessing that was your first car?

CS is brilliant. You just get plebs like Ant commenting without thinking.

Welcome to the Club.

Cheers all - yeah it was my first car, then I had a mk4 GT TDi, then a mk2 Golf GTi 16v and i'm currently driving my dad's van as someone offered me a price i couldn't refuse on the mk2.

I've checked insurance and it's a hell of a lot cheaper than the mk2 is so its a go on that front, However I couldn't bare to have another car like my first car, which was in the garage at least once a month. Headgasket, Clutch, Electrics, Hell at one point it even set fire to itself.

I probably have around 4k to spend on a Clio at the moment, which after looking around I seem to be able to pick up a decent, low mileage one for around that price.

It was between getting something sensible - Had my heart set on a mk4 Golf anniversary TDi, but there starting to get a hell of a lot of miles on now. Or something little, and super quick.

REVIVAL OF THIS THREAD!!!!

Went out car shopping today, was looking for something sensible like an astra or new corsa.

Long story short:

Pick this up in 7 days.

1.4 16V Dynamique on an 07 plate with 37k on.

Got it for an excellent price with tax, cam belt changed, and a few little niggles I found to be fixed. Also he's giving me £150 to get the car detailed as I don't trust the monkeys at the dealership.
