Newbie PC usage question

Darren S

What's the deal with taping up the cill rubbers, etc? Does the PC damage these in anyway? Or is it that the pad on the PC would pickup way too much crap off the rubbers?

Cheers,
D.

It's mainly to avoid getting your product onto textured plastic, rubber and the like.

After 5 hours you might be getting a bit tired and one slip onto a bit of black plastic would see you with lovely white marks that you'd have to scrub for ages to get out.:dead:

Some of the glazey non abrasive things are fine on rubber seals, particularly Vanilla Moose Glaze. But anything else you really want to keep off the black bits.

If you've ever got polish on rough plastic by hand, imagine how good a job a machine can do of making a mess!

Normal masking tape works fine, blue painters tape can be purchased from B&Q, the genuine 3M 3434 Tape can be purchased from most of the online traders or any local good bodyshop supplier.

I tape up all rubbers and unpainted trim when compouding or heavy polishing or doing work on a whole car. Glazing, Mild polishes or Sealants and spot repairs by machine I just take care. If in doubt mask it up as it will save greif in the long run.

When polishing the glass with Vanilla Moose leave the rubbers unmasked and the pad will clean them up nicely.
