Newbie - Quick Brakes Question

Hi Guys,

My girlfriends 52 Plate 1.2 16v Dynamique needs disks and pads, the place where i usually get my bits from has all the stuff but loads of different versions....

Vented or solid disks - i found out they are vented so thats ok.

But pads are a different story, there are Bendix, Bosch and Lucas - how can i tell which are the ones i need without taking the wheel off?

I have been to 2 Renault dealers who were to expensive as expected and when i asked them which of the 3 the pads were, both of them said they didnt know and that they just order of the order number on their computers...... Thanks for nothing!!

Anyway, can any of you guys help? today if poss as i was going to buy and fit them tomorrow if i can....

im not sure which the pads would be, and in the parts guys defence most of the computers will not specify. The chassis number gets keyed in and it will give you the part numbers but nothing more, if there is a build date change from one month to the next it might give a chioce but at a main dealer it wont tell you what type it is as there is no need for them to know that. where abouts are you based ?

was going to say if you were local i could get a deal at the dealer here, i get trade price on all the bits i buy from renault. but im based in swindon so a bit far for you. i would be inclined to try a different motorfactor they might not ask you as many questions on the pads.

Do you know if it would say on the caliper if i did take the wheel off etc?

sometimes you can see enough of the writing on the back of the pad when you take the wheel of without removing the caliper. ive got a 172 so i cant even pop and have a look at mine to tell you if thats the case on the 1.2. has to be worth a shot tho, will only take you 10mins to pop the wheel off and back on again. word of warning tho if you have a trolley jack use that instead of the renault one as theyre toss, also as you jack it up do so slowly and keep an eye on the lip on the sill, even tho the jacking point is reinforced they have a habit or bending over. you might find you are better off jacking it up on one of the box sections in the floorpan.

Then click on the P to the left of the entry third waydown for Bendix pads, then again for the Girling pads.

You will see a pic of each.

Take your wheel off and you may be able to tell without taking the caliper off too. (You may not even have to take the wheel off)

It doesnt matter go into Halfords and get a set of 1.8 16V pads (there the same as all new Mk2 CLios have) they sell.

£20 they are for all 4 pads and you can change themn very quick and easily.

You probably dont need diks but it you do try europarts £30 I think for both disks.
