Newbie with Clio 182 purchased yesterday - advice please!!

  Renault Clio 182
Hey everyone,

I just got a 182 and was lead to believe by the previous owner that it didn't need a cam belt until 72k. My garage however say it needs one now as its 6 yrs old (only done 44k miles). It was serviced last week but they didn't do the cambelt?

Im being quoted £180 + Parts and advised to change the water pump at the same time - any thoughts appreciated.

Also - i have looked on the forum regarding model types and still can't work out what I own.
It has half leather and alcantara, climate, cruise and is black in colour. It also has what I would guess is a standard rear spoiler (tiny) fitted.

Thanks in advance

Conrad

Cambelt should be changed at 72K or 5 years whichevers first, so it is overdue.

As for spec, it's most likely a 182 without cup packs, i.e, smaller spoiler, no splitter and silver wheels.

Please take it to a specialist, £180+parts is too cheap and it wont be done properly. Loads on here about local garages not using the correct 3 timing tools, your average garage will screw it up I promise you. We see it every day!!!!!

Sounds about right on the spec - That's fine I'm really happy with car as it is.

I have managed to get a contribution of £100 towards the cam belt change (in light of the sellers ignorance and in acknowledgement of the fact it does need doing) but I guess that's as good as it will get.

So anyway 24 hours in and I love the car but it's going to cost me £300ish straight away.

Happy days

The guy was reffered to me as a Renault specialist by my garage who didn't want to do it - he's mobile so that could be why he's cheap?
He was doing another clio while I was on the phone to him - any thoughts on water pump replacement at the same time?

Found a Renault specialist locally - they have quoted £408 inc vat using genuine Renault parts. I asked about using Autodata and correct tools etc and they said they had all the correct Renault tools and did this type of work all the time - mostly for dealerships and other garages. They offered to do the water pump also for £456 inc vat for all the work - is it worth the extra £48?

Going to book it in there for next week.

Thanks for the advice - much appreciated.
