news groups - connections???

hi

just looking at newhosting.com as im coming to the end of my trial period. works out about 8£ a month unlimited with 30 connections it says.

i followed griffs tutorial on setting up newsgroups and i believe according to his screenshot i only set up 8 connections? any reason for this?

why cant i max out and use my full 30 im paying for?

and also will it be quicker with more connections?

cheers

p.s. anyone know of a better unlimited deal?

cheers

having a large number of connections isn't 'that' useful really, i have 20 but i still d/l the same speed as when i had 10.

anyway number of connections is defined in your leeching software. just set it in there and aay you go.

i've tired newsdemon for less than giganews but eventually went back because they have terrible speed reliability to their servers AND their support is well, they don't respond to support emails.

I joined Newshosting last month after several years with Giganews, I opted for the NHXL plan which works out at £12-£13 per month. SSL comes as standard on Newshosting which is nice.

Giganews was missing files from several episodes of US shows which I wanted to download and watch whereas Newshosting had them all and so far the connection speeds have been more reliable.

Giganews is just the server though, is it not? It's whoever uploads the files in the first place that's missing the files - Newzbin for example? The par files usually solve this anyway.

Newzbin simply creates reports of where the files are and for most of these I have been looking for the rar and par files have been missing when downloading with Giganews. Using Newshosting everything downloads without any issue. It's also worked out cheaper for me on NH to have the same level of service as I had on Giganews.

Usually around 2500kb/s which is what Giganews used to be at but recently I found my downloads were dropping to under 200kb/s often. A combination of this and missing files forced me to jump ship.

lol @ # connections, depends what they are limited to, never heard of anyone being capped at an excessive level (2-3 mbit here and there)
Never needed to go beyond 4 connections personally
