Nice to see gravel traps doing their job...



....not. This was apparently at 115mph, but the car was so light it just skimmed across the gravel trap. Shown in slow-mo, then at full speed. Lucky to walk away imo.

Seems to be that gravel traps aren't very effective these days, in many situations.

Could gravel traps become less effective if not in a waved shape surface? Also not raking it from time to time to reduce settling?

Thing that gets me in videos like this is the head shaking around, makes the person look dead almost :/

Pretty sure if the suspension hadn't been fubar'd the gravel trap would of been much more effective.

I think if they are waved, they tend to launch the car into the air.
I think that's why a lot of circuits have tarmac run offs now.

Yeah rutted gravel trap = take off time. And I agree, had the suspension been attached, it would have slowed the car down a lot.

Isn't it remarkable that with all the technology available, old tyres are still the best and most popular means of retarding a race car. ( And they're cheap too).
