No brake fluid going to rear offside caliper

  172DD Cup
i've undone all the pipework as far as the long pipe under the car that goes into the brake load sensing valve and there's no brake fluid!

can anyone tell me, does this long pipe go straight to the master cylinder?

if so, either that long pipe has been damaged somewhere or the master cylinder not pumping fluid to that rear caliper.

any ideas?

i can't see how to get the master cylinder off, feel like giving it to a garage to sort out, how many hours do you think?

The pipe that runs under the car, does that go all the way to the master cylinder or is there another joint?

the cups have 4 outlets off the MC the 2 rear lines run to the bias valve above the rear axle on the passenger side, check that isn't knackered first!

there's no fluid coming out of the pipe that runs under the car, i disconnected it from the bias valve to check. although i have an update...

the car is in the garage and they say they ARE getting fluid to that caliper but not out the bleed nipple so they are replacing the caliper.
we'll see what happens after they replace the caliper. i'm not entirely convinced as when i checked there was no fluid in any of the pipes between the long pipe and the caliper, i removed all the unions around the rubber brake hose and bias valve and line going into the caliper and nothing. i'll report back once i've heard from the garage.

I had a similar problem with a 106 as the caliper was getting fluid but it wouldnt come out the bleed nipple. You couldnt push the caliper piston back in, even with a huge G-clamp which incidentally got bent. Slackened the bleed nipple and still no joy. So took the nipple fully out and with a spurt and some air rushin noises the piston could be pushed back in just by hand. Caliper worked fine after that.

thing is, the piston moved back and forth freely. beginning to get concerned that the garage are going to swap out the caliper and make no difference, then i have to argue about not paying for it as they haven't fixed the problem. always the way isn't it :)

caliper swapped out and now recording over 100% efficiency both sides, although i did use a cable tie to lock the bias valve in the down position :)

garage have cable tied mine in the up position- does this increase efficiency? i ask, because they charged me to change a caliper but i can still turn the wheel by hand with the brakes on

Up is more brakes and it is up at rest.

It moves down when you press the brake to take some of the pressure from the rears.

If you hold it up e.g. with cable ties. It can't move to take pressure from the rears so you get max effort.

ah, seeing as you asked i can say that yes it is going well. i didn't want to come on and say yeah it's good off my own back, sods law and all that.

got my wrists leaning my wooden desk, just in case :)

i haven't checked for leaks, but nothing where i usually park and nothing visible from underneath, but i haven't removed undertray.

gear changes are slick rick.

so all looking good :) hopefully twice is enough for the gearbox now. although i'll be dropping the frame again shortly to fit a manual rack. shame i didn't think to do it when the box was out!

thanks to you and jay for talking with agency, they were very helpful and turned it around in about 1h20mins, didn't have long to shop in worcester!

while you're here though i have a question about dropping the frame :) trust you're judgement you see :) is the upper engine mount and upper gearbox mount enough to support the engine when i drop the frame, or do i need to support it from underneath on the sump too?

It might be,but I would give it some more to be on the safe side.Either underneath or a bit of 3x2 and rope across the the top.
