I was driving my 5 month old 182 home from work last Friday, when the STOP light appeared, and withing a second I lost power steering (very heavy) and a second later I lost power to the brakes, making it very difficult to evade or stop... I lost most of the speed with the pressure in the brake system, then had to make use of my body weight on the brake, plus the handbrake, plus a hill to stop just short of entering a field. At this point the engine was still running, so I stopped it, and from then on it wouldnt start... A few hours and the a call to Renault Assist / AA later, my car was taken away on a recovery truck.
They now tell me that they have fixed the problems - apparently for the ABS problem, the expansion box was not sealed properly or the seal broke, and it dumped coolant onto a Sensor, and it stopped my brakes working. For the engine not starting, apparently there was an injection sensor fault. But they can't explain why the steering stopped working properly seeing as the engine did NOT cut out.
So I dont have much confidence that everything is OK. Does anyone have any advice? I plan to write to Renault and ask them what they can do. Ideally I want a replacement car, or at very least be compensated some how. If this had occurred about 200 yards further down the road I would have been on a major junction and probably in hostpital now...
Any advice?
Thanks
David
