No interior heating

A friend of mine who owns a '53 plate black Clio 172 has no interior heaters. They used to stop and start (when turned on) and now they don't work at all. He has taken the car to Renault and they said that it's a "common problem" and that it's a dash out job as the motor has to be replaced and it will take about two days. Is this correct because it seems anything that goes wrong on a car nowadays is a "common problem".

I had the exact same problem on my 182, I had my climate control sensor changed and heating resistor, only took halkf a day by Renault but did cost me £240.

Don't know whether this is any relevance but it sounds like the same prob my sis had on her KA, altho hers just blew out cold air! went to the scrapyard and got a new pump for about 40 quid and did it with my dad, took about 2 hours mind! Shop around cause Reno are the kings of rippin people off

i got the same problem too, mine however just spits out hot air all the time regardless of what setting its on. The garage said its a dash out job to fix a section that controls the temp by air flow???? They wanted £400 + VAT!!!!!

I think if you read the guides by edde about common problems he talks about a little plastic gear on a motor that changes the temperature that breaks. Thats a big dash out faf job just for a tiny little gear.

best of luck with it

your problem is almost definitely the gear, the resistor is either nackered or not, the gear means it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. Dash out job. I would speak to a specialist/auto electrician see what prices you can get.
