NO OIL!

right! engine cut out on me today at 3.500 revs twice! wouldnt let me do more than 50 1st time it cut out! was ok after i turned it off and turned it bk on again but.. i asked around! few people thought it was dodgey wiring in the battery or something?

just checked my oil and its bone dry! nothing at all in it! im sure when i checked it about 5 weeks ago was full!

do you think maybe thats why it was playing up?
sure its big problem not to have oil isnt it :S want it cease up or something?

not running it at all !

going to get an oil change at the locol garage in the morning!

hopefully if he s not busy!

Whats wrong with putting in new oil with older oil? I would rather do that than drive it to the garage with no oil in and sieze the engine.

What I would be more concerned about is where all the oil is going and how you have failed to see the digital dipstick everytime you start the car.

thing is mate the gare is litrally urm 50 metres if that away from my house! so culd push it there! plus ive just thought about that! there is no light on the dash come up:S !! really making me think! maybe the dealer that sold me it new there was something rong and took the bulb out??

had it urm ... say about just over a month now! its been great! had some dick crash into me the 1st week or so i had it but thats all been seen to now! was just body work damage! have no idea what is wrong with it then! dont know what oil to buy! plus how would i get there! nearest petrol station or adsa/tesco is 15 miles or so away!

Theres nothing wrong with old oil+new oil. You can even mix grades. Fact is you've run it with no oil and you'll be lucky if you don't need a new engine.

lol. if you know its got enough oil not to cause any damage then why do you use a garage?

oil pressure is vital, not level, if there is a lack of oil pressure is the 1st thing to go. and the switch won't come on until its FAR too late.

urm becuase theres nower i can go to get oil right this moment! im not running the car tho! and plus why the f**k does eveeryone keep thinkin its my fault? what you want me to do check my dipstick every half hour incase i need to top up! it was fine 5 weeks ago or so.. so didnt fink it wuld need more do you? plus the light on the dash didnt come up so what indication did i have to think to check it? NONE!!

all i can get hold of at the moment is 10w 40 oil! is that ok or not?

That'll be fine! Just put some oil in it before you drive it next or you'll have a big bill for a new engine.

I check mine every 2-3 weeks and always before i go on long journeys.
Just dont run it dry mate i have seen it many times. Man just last week brought in his audi a6 3.2quattro into my dads garage because it was making funny noises, week before he saw the oil light come on so he put oil in it but it was too late... Car fucked

So it was fine 5 weeks ago and you've not checked it since?

FFS how much effort is it to whip the dipstick out before you drive it at some point over the weekend?

The light on the dash is an oil PRESSURE warning not an oil level light. If its on then you have no/minimal oil pressure. If its on for any length of time (10 seconds plus) then chances are you have a scrap engine.

Wait until its cold/stood on a level surface for a few hours and check the dipstick to get a proper measure of the oil level.

and yes, it is your fault that there is no oil in there. being lazy and not checking the oil could be costing you a new engine.

The oil warning light is for pressure. When you turn your engine on the odometer normally says 'oil ok' (i'm not sure what it says when your low) when this is displayed press the trip reset button or the button on the end of the stalk to see your oil level. easy peasy (this is assuming that all clios have this but as far as i am aware all renaults have this feature)

It'll always say Oil OK unless it absolutely isn't. Don't trust the dash. Check it yourself and be sure.

MAYBE they serviced the car before selling it to you and put in new oil... hard to see on the dipstick then as it's very clear stuff then.

i hope this is the case anyway... check BEFORE filling up again !

What engine is this by the way? If its a 1.2 16v then they do drink oil, i check mine every couple of times i go out nearly, by simply pressing the reset button when the dash says oil ok, but there again mine has been drinking oil lately so iv been double checking.
Correct me if im wrong but renault say that a litre of oil for 1000miles on this engine is within their tolerence?

And what do you know? Lets not forget your the guy who said that old oil is not compatible with new oil.
Sell up, learn how to treat a car, then buy another.
If you run with no oil, you'll need a new engine. It's really very simple. If it's not making death noises currently, it still could down the line. You'd be lucky to have gotten away with this if there was no oil on the dipstick.

yup! thats only a litre! only had a 10er on me and that was £9.86 ! is that the right stuff? its only for now ? til the morning!
