Noise - have I got a hard drive in my car?!

Tonight as I sat waiting for someone in the car, I encountered the strangest noise. I'm not even sure if it's always been there and I've never noticed (53 plate 172 btw). I can only hear it if I sit very quietly and have the ignition turned on to position 1. Coming from the left of the car is a noise that I can only describe as being like a hard drive accessing! It's a rapid random tick sometimes puntated by a slightly longer noise like a small motor working. Getting out of the car and crouching next to the drivers side headlight it's much louder! In fact it sounds like a tiny motor constantly recorrecting itself rapidly, then stopping for a moment before starting again. Opening up the bonnet just deafened me with a new loud whine coming from somewhere underneath the coolant bottle. But I think that's unrelated! Renaults eh? ^^ If anyone has encountered this problem or knows what it might be, I'd be very interested to hear!

might be the self leveling headlights on the zenonz(spelling) mine is the same.

if you park behind something with your lights on and move slowly you can see the lights adjusting themselfs

Sounds a distinct possibility. Maybe I will have a dig around back there. I always thought you just moved them up and down manually with a white cog. But if you're right I guess a dirty sensor or something is causing a problem...

I'll have to listen out for this and look out for my xenons moving on start up on dark nights
