Noisy engine when ticking over, any help?

  Titanium 182
It's been quite noisy when ticking over for a while now, drives fine with no tappy ticking noises, only when idle. Its at its loudest when I hover over the 'Renault Sport' area of the engine. any thoughts or suggestions to what this may be?

Thanks, Niki.

I'll take it in somewhere and see whats said about it, would any damage be caused if i didnt get it sorted until a month or so?

Can't you just get the dephaser done?

Not without taking off the belt, and once a belt it off, the lot needs replacing...... unless its been done VERY recently, then you could get away with just a belt. But the labour is still all there

It's likely to be the dephaser pulley. They get noisy when worn. It sounds like a noisy alternator bearing. Whirring noise. I had mine done with the cambelt last year. It was a lot quieter afterwards and the response was better due to the timing being much more accurate.

I had the same noise came from around the inlet manifold turned out to be the waterpump bearing had failed and was clattering.

No need to jump on the dephaser wagon it can be down to various things sparkplugs, injectors, waterpump etc

Take it to someone who knows what they are doing like the above MicKPM;)

Got any vids you can upload? Without hearing the noise its pretty hard to diagnose. Could be something dead daft an simple, cheap fix even.
