Noob questions inside

  Ph1 172
I've never really been to big on washing cleaning cars etc,

but of late find myself looking more and more at detailing products but not really knowing what to get.

At the mo i use manly AG products SRP, EGP etc Meguiars stage 1 paint cleaner Scratch x.

I always used the 2BM to wash my car, and have a fair few drying towels MF clothes etc.

Been looking at using a clay bar, but not really sure on what its used for? :S So can anyone point my in the direction of a good one to buy?

Also any other products I should be using?

Been looking at using a clay bar, but not really sure on what its used for?

I'm pretty new to this myself but from my understanding a clay bar is used to remove micro containments from the paintwork before polishing and after washing the car.
It's normally used in conjunction with a lubricant and is just lightly rubbed over the surface of the paintwork. The idea I think is that when you are polishing you don't want to be rubbing these particles in to the paintwork inducing things like marring and swirl marks.

Hope this helps ;)

sorry for thread high jack here but with so many different products on the market how do you find what is write for you? Is it simply a case of purchasing and trying as that could surely work out extremely expensive quickly?

Or just ask around and listen to peoples advice? I read a rather long guide on detailing world which stipulated the intensity of the polish can depend on the paint and I suppose as my car's been resprayed in a ford 2 pack colour that I'm just going to have to start light and work up if needed?

Lastly what is the best store for purchasing these products from?

Regards Dean.

The best thing you can do, Dean, is ask. People can advise from similar situations and from their experience. If you were to tell me that your car has Ford paint on it, I would not advise certain polishes, but would advise others.

Luckily, you can rely on others to buy and receive test samples of products and be the guinea pigs, prior to your requirement for them. Much like reviewing holiday destinations!

There are a number of very high calibre online stores if you are happy to order and buy online. I4Detailing, Polished Bliss and CleanYourCar are just three examples.

If you require specific product help, post away.
