Norton Anti Virus

Ive got a newish laptop and the free 90 day trial ran out what does this mean as im being thick as a mofo!!Do i pay for a new subscription or just leave it or is there alternative freeware to protect me?

i wouldnt update norton tbh, just uninstalled it from mine as it was w**k!

Dont know which is the best free one but i'm currently using AVG. It found viruses that norton never detected

Im using blueyonders free anti virus at the moment and its better than norton ever was

Delete it and get yourself AVG. its free and way better imho.

free version of AVG is probably all you will need. Can't hurt to run an online virus scan now and again though. MS do one now: http://safety.live.com/site/en-US/default.htm (can only be run from IE)

i was using panda and it worked very well but always had a problem where it kept asking me to pay for a lisence when i already had.

I had panda but now and again it would use 99% cpu usage (not much fun when trying to play FEAR). I tried to use panda support but it kept refusing the username/password they gave me so I fucked it off for AVG.

Why does everyone hate norton? What problems do people have with the software?

Ive tried avg, mcafee, pc chillin and a few other free scanners and only really sticking with norton because i have it preinstalled on my new computer and cant be arsed to use a sperate firewall and antivirus program. Plus i got a dodgy subcription for free updates till 2036 hehe.

Anyone else happy with norton?

Norton simply misses loads of viruses. I used norton for years. Out of curiosity I tried an online scan and it found a number of viruses.

You don't need a firewall if you have a router with NAT btw

U sayng i can turn the firewall off, i knew that the netgear router had a firewall just didnt think it was that good thats why i run both, so it ok to turn it off?

yes mate if the router has NAT you can turn the software firewall off.

avast is antivirus + firewall anyway. Not sure if you can install just the antivirus part of it.

I have avg 7.1 its just the anti virus, there is a version with a firewall added, i didnt download that one.

Not anymore LoL, resource hogging program , couldnt even load a game without it being jerky :evil:
