Not Dephaser :S

  Golf GTD Mk7
So to cut a long story short. I got the belts changed as they were due (not saying who did it ;)). Drove the car away and all seemed fine. Ran well, felt the same as when I left it.
Got in it the day after to nip the the gym, and on the way back it started getting VERY noisey. I instantly thought Dephaser had gone, so I drove to the guy, and by this time the noise was really bad (sounded like a diesel tractor running on 1 cylinder). It would barely run, trying to stall on itself. Noise was coming from the inlet cams, so dephaser seemed the obvious choice. He checked the oil pressure also as I've got a cooler fitted (did a full day at Oulton with this, and it was fine), and pressure seemed ok. Oil was brand new the day I ran at Oulton also.
He took it back, changed the dephaser, belt etc, and its still bad. He's thinks tappets, but why would these go within the space of 10miles after the initial belt change? Furthermore, why would the oil cooler make this an issue? He's going to remove the cooler, and see if it make a difference, then if not, it's off with the rocker :(

Thoughts?

  Now Sold :-(
There were a few faulty kits knocking about last year that led to a well respected trader on here recalling several cars to have a full replacement kit fitted. Who supplied the kit and how long had they had it?

just so no one misreads - UNRELATED TO THE ORIGINAL POST

this was me by the way, and no, no one has had a failure

the noise issue i had was a random tap at idle (tiny tiny tiny noise, most people wouldn't even notice)

mark - mr beale's car is being done at the moment ;) shame i had to dirve 2hours each way to drop it back and get the train home :(

Went down to see it today, he removed the cam seals and the knotches were both aligned correctly. He's going to have a look with a scope to see if the valves have dropped, if not, rocker covers coming off and we'll see the extent of the damage :S
