Notchy gearbox when cold - Clio 172.

Recently when cold the car is very difficult to select the first few gears.
When rolling in traffic at say 3mph or so it's almost impossible to slot back into first and when changing from first to second it's difficult to select, doesnt crunch it's just like there is something in the way and you have to push hard to get through it then it clunks into position. However when warm this goes away. Once stationary this also goes away hot or cold, if I want to select first in traffic I have to come to a total stop and it goes in no worries.
I thought worn syncros at first but since it goes away when stopped and when warm I'm not abit confused.
Any help is appreciated.

When did it last have a gearbox oil change? That would be the first thing I would do. Quite often sorts the issue you describe.

Not sure if there is a guide on here or not. There is a drain plug at bottom of the gearbox, same as the sump plug one. At the front of the gearbox is a filler hole, which has like a plastic wing nut. Get a couple of funnels to fill from the top. 3ltrs of the Genuine Renault Elf stuff you want. Real easy to do and takes no time at all.

I have also been reliably informed a broken spring will cause this issue on a JC5 gearbox so be worth a look too.

Do I need to use the Renault tranself box oil or could I use euros triple qx box oil, they are both 75w80 but with discounts the euro one is far cheaper

Get redline mtl over the Renault stuff. Trust me, it’s the best oil you could ever put in the box.
Being as it's just under a litre per bottle would I need to get 4 bottles?

Also, do I need to use a pump to put the oil in or can I just use a length of flexible tube and a funnel?

Flexible tube and funnel is fine. So is 3ltrs of oil. I think officially it takes 3.1. If it's like most of the ones I have changed you will be lucky if there is more than 2.5ltrs in it!!

Just to update the thread for anyone who needs the information in the future I changed my oil and the problem is cured.
Was debating buying the febi reccomended stuff from euro as it's the same grade but went with tranself as I'm unsure if febi oil will cause any damage.
