Now I have An Oil Leak





Well after putting all the bits back onto the car i now have an oil leak from a completely different place

It looks like it may be coming from somewhere near the drive shaft or cv joint on the passenger side, has anyone got any ideas as to what this could possibly be, and whether it could in some way directly related to my engine overheating?

Also the red light on my temperature guage comes on when i turn the ignition now, is this normal?(only had the car 5 days so i have no idea whats meant to come on etc), it goes off when i start the car.

Any help will be greatley appreciated

If i cant fix it i think ill be getting towed home
 


Not sure exactly what you have done to your car but when i replaced both driveshafts on my 16v, the passenger side threads in the gearbox that held the boot on stripped. When i re-assembled it all, i had an oil leak that beacme worse as the oil warmed up (became thinner and seeped out)

I took the driveshaft, strutt,wishbone etc off and heli-coiled the threads. Then put it all back together and did it up tight (whatever the torque should be, I forget now) and it was perfect. Not a drop of oil since.

Dont listen to people who say this mehtod isnt proper (we used to use heli-coils on F1 gearboxes up until about 3 years ago for rocker posts, these must be mentally strong) You have to tap the helicoil square obviously but if done properly its better than a tapped hole.

Have you checked you power steering fluid level recently? The same things happening to my car, but all I can think of is that the steering rack gator has split.
Just a thought.
