Number plates

Im getting my new car in september, just wanted to know the options on the number plate, can you choose any of the digits or letters? does it cost any extra? ect....

The first 2 letters depict the area you are buying the car from ie. in my town the area is MK, the next two are the year ie 53/03 then the last 3 are random - the dealership is usually issued with certain registrations and you can choose from these - only about 5 tho.

Well, thats how its been for the new cars in my house (none of which have been mine lol)
