OBDII/EOBD Computer software?

As a lot of us can't splash out on £1000 OBD tools, I got a OBDII to USB cable! Can any geniuses here recommend some good software? Does anybody know what software the Autel MaxiDAS uses? Thinking of getting a toughbook with Windows CE and doing some DIY!
