Off to look at a 182

  FRS
I'm going to look at a Clio 182 Trophy on tuesday night after work, just wondered if anyone has had experience with 182's so just looking for some advice, it's a 55 plate on 50k, And the guy is only looking for 5k for it, I'm thinking it hasn't had a major belt change yet so what miles am i looking at for a belt change?

1822.jpg

Bonnet bra is no longer on the car might i add

Cheers.

Please promise you'll remove all those stickers/bra if you buy it? :dapprove:

Belts are 5years/72k. So now. Looking at 500ish for a change by someone reputable. Birchdown if you're in the NW. BTM in the Midlands. Rentech in the South.

Bra is already off and yeah i'd be up for taking the stickers off.

WTF is going on with that rear bumper??? Randomstickers.com
The guy races for formula 3 , so Renault gave him the custom stickers.
Nah, no one on here has had experience with 182's.
It was copied from another forum i wanted feedback from cheers for the sarcasm and nice nasty red wheels.
What's a 182?
Cheers.Nob

With a 182 on 30k plus check the exhaust out as they hold water and corrode from the inside out, on a trophy ask if they shocks have been serviced and pay them specific attention due to them costing a small fortune.

Sarcasm wont get you very far and neither will puttiing "Nob" after cheers in white ;)

As said just a stardard check as on any car just check the the dampers too.

From the read of the ad on PH, it'll need both belts changed as they should be changed after 5 years regardless of milage. It doesn't sound like the shocks have been looked at so check them for wear etc.

Exhaust are prone to go after a while so again check the condition of that. And in case your not aware, 182's don't come with a spare wheel well.

He's not a bad lad really folks, ought to be used to the banter being from SaxP ;) See your thread on SaxP for what i recommend to check dude.

Both belts? the auxiliary belt is part of the 3 year/36k service, if he's not done it then that to me is a bad sign, screams out that it's not really been looked after properly.

It's also worth pointing out that those stickers show a remarkable lack of taste - almost sacrilege to daub a Trophy with that kind of garish cak.

  Civic Type R
Front bumper looks like its had paint ( not necessarily a bad thing!!) ? Dunno why someone's put a gash bonnet bra and stickers on a Trophy though, it looks f**king awful, I feel sorry for it!!

  FRS
Tell jenic this then if you weren't capable of understanding, he said none of us have had experience with 182's, thats where i mentioned the term sarcasm ;) Well done spotting the white text too genius have a gold star.

  FRS
And about the front bumper yeah he did say something about having it repainted which is kind of strange i guess..

  Yozz'd up 182
Oh dear.

Yes its def had a front end respray at least.

Honestly though you wont get anywhere with such hostility

I for one cant be bothered to look properly now to see if anything else seems off

Try the search button.

Come on fellas, if you were considering buying a different car and asked on another forum and you got "no one has experience of 182's" and "whats a 182?", I am sure you would all think, to55ers  Even if it was meant in jest.

Give the lad a break - it might seem funny, but for a newcomer, it doesnt help.
No offence Mike/ Gouldy.

And Mwn11 - I dont think Krys started with the sarcasm. :nono:

As Rory182 says, exhausts can collect water a bit, susceptible to rattles at joint to cat, check Sachs damper service.
Cambelt is £500, Aux Belt is bugger all extra if you have done same time as Cambelt, + cost of part.

Check for rattly/crashy front suspension/ anti roll bars.
Check all display lights work, and a thororugh check of electrical items inside.

Look around inside of engine bay for frontal damage by looks of sprayed up bumper and get it HPI'd.

Aux belt is 5 years.

+1

TBH out of the three 182's I have had, 2 have had the front bumper sprayed including my current one, which has also had new grille. This wouldn't put me off but you need to HPI it, and look in the engine bay / underneath car for evidence of damage, ask the owner why its been sprayed, it may just be for stone chips etc. Make sure you check the dampers, ideally they should of been serviced, but if they haven't make sure they have the 5-10mm gap ( use search for more info).

It looks like a very cheap trophy in my opinion, so I would be very careful, definitely wouldn't surprise me if its CATD. You might be able grab a bargain as long as you tread carefully!!!

Yeah I'd expect to be paying £6.5k

unless its Cat D of course - then I'd be avoiding.

Tbf the people that were being morons in the first couple of posts cant complain at getting a stupid comment back.

As Revels said your main issue is the belts being done, get it factored into the price. Also you'd want to find out if those Sachs dampers have had a refurb at somepoint.

Not according to Rentech it isn't

Service wise.............

36000 Mile service on 172 / 182 / Trophy with air conditioning

36k with accessory belt only £275 all inclusive

36k with full accessory belt kit £375 all inclusive

The following is done on 36k service...
oil, air, pollen, Elf Evolutrion SXR 5w/40 engine oil, Brake fluid change with TRW fluid & accessory belt or kit which ever is requested, also full check over & Clip diagnostic system test.
All genuine parts used.

I'm guessing Mike knows more about servicing 182's than you do.

Agree'd, aye i'll need to ask about the suspension which seems to be a major issue :( And yeah i hope to get a fair bit off with the belts if possible.

It's not a major issue as it's sometimes played up to be on here. But it'd be nice to know that its £500 u won't have to fork out yourself anytime soon!

Cheers for the straight-forward answers, i cant see the difference in the bumper in that pic although it is off putting, so what we saying if i can get it for 4.5k grab it with both hands?

Theres normally black stickers in the grill, when these aren't present it normally indicates that the bumper has been resprayed. Firstly HPI it, if it comes back clear go and have a look. Ideally you want service history, If the belts haven't been done you need to budget about 400-500 quid for both kits. Listen to what the guys have said above and check EVERYTHING.

4.5k would be a steal, To be honest I think you will find that there is something wrong.. it just seems too cheap imo. What are your previous cars?? Trophy's are immense.

  FRS
Currently running a 16v Series 2 Rallye, Bianca white on Satin black chrono's, pugsport , carbon engine and inlet cover, sparco sprint 5's , harnesses the lot, selling it once i buy this trophy if i can buy it, hoping that there isn't too much wrong but if there's nothing serious and i can get it for 4.5k i will, as i said the guy races for Renault so probably got the car free.

  Civic Type R
Its probably the stickers putting everyone off, there a bit of a ''no no'' on here. Good luck with the car, hope it all goes well when you look at it. You'll love it.

I'll put my serious head on now ;)

Some advice, just because he races for renault doesn't mean anything really. I bought mine off a guy who worked at Renault in manchester as a mechanic, he still didn't properly maintain it though :(

£4.5k is a good price, and even if it needed some work like belts and suspension refurb then its still a good deal. Most trophys will need a suspension refurb since a lot of owners wont ever bother so I wouldn't even take that into account when looking for them, if one has had it done then see it as a bonus. Can still use it as a bargaining tool though.

As a Rallye owner you'll already know to look for crash damage etc since it will be the same with them.

I googled you and it seems you are quite an established member on another forum, you could of come up with better comebacks than an oxymoron and nob lol but never mind ;)

Where does it say 3 years there?

I did a thread about it while back, it's 5 years. I'd find it is I wasn't on my phone.
