Oh Hi.

  Fiat Punto!
Hi.

I own a punto atm and want a change. Im considering a 182 but im slightly confused regarding the cup packs and full fat and the difference between them.

Sorry a complete noob question lol :rasp:

  Fiat Punto!
Thanks mate!

Ahh thats cleared it up slightly but...

its says;

'
Mark 2 Phase 2 182
AKA
182
Mark 2 Phase 3 182

You will often see 182 referred to as 'Full Fat' or 'FF' for short. These versions of the standard 182 also come with 'Cup Packs' these are the Cup suspension (Firmer, lower suspension and anthracite alloy wheels) and the Cup spoilers (Slightly larger rear spoiler and front splitter).

and ...

Mark 2 Phase 2 182 Cup
AKA
Mark 2 Phase 3 182 Cup
182 Cup

So if a 182 has both cup packs (ff) then whats the difference between that and a 182 cup?

The 182 cup is effectively "poverty spec" it will have cloth seats, no cruise control or climate control, where as the fullfat will have all of the above but will have cup suspension and spoilers pack.

I knew i would end up confusing you.

The 182 comes as standard with Xenons / Climate, Nice seat etc. You could then spec one or both of the Cup Packs. Making is a 182 with Cup packs.

Later, the 182 Cup was realised, which had the Cup Packs as standard, but also lacked teh Xenons, Climate, etc as it was billed as being more - Driver than comfort focused.

I understand now!!! Lol thanks mate.

A FF182 is what i would want ideally :)

Liquid yellow or racing blue ;). My current car is sprint blue which is basically the same colour.

Tbh i dont car what colour.

It either a 182 or a 106 gti but think the clio will be the 'better car.

Im sure this has been covered before but didnt want to make a new thread. I did check the guides but im not a member so cant access them :(.
Anyways, performance wise, whats the difference between a 172 and 182? Spec wise i know, just wondering if the 172/182 is slower?

Performance, nothing. Not actually joking either. A member (with a 182) and I went from about 40 to way past the limit and we were literally neck and neck.

Oh, were they both standard? Doesnt the exhaust on the 182 help at all?

The model is a "Renaultsport Clio 1*2", not a "Cliosport" - that's what he means!

Opps lol.

As above yeah, a clio sport is a 1.4 mk2 ph1, a Renault Sport Clio is any of the 2.0 16v models.

Ohhh lol. I get ya ;)

In my case, ph1. But "extra 10bhp" doesn't really exist. A well built healthy 172 engine could decimate a Friday afternoon 182...

The engines seem to vary a lot.

Of course, there are two phases of 172. The original (phase 1 if you like) and the phase 2 (with the larger headlights, slatted grills etc.).
As for Cup packs and not, it's really only the front splitter you want on the phase 2! I can hardly tell the difference between the Cup and non-Cup rear spoiler.
If you're on a budget, stick with a 172.

I ment i dont want a 172 cup but want the suspension :p.

Is the cup suspension make much difference, apart from it being firm and slightly lower iirc.

I believe it's a few mm lower but a set of Eibach springs should get you that sort of improvement. I doubt that there is that much in it.
The 172 Cup is a very raw model (sometimes referred to as having a "poverty spec" interior), crucially lacking ABS, xenon lights, any form of air con (unless it is one of VERY few silver ones that had it). No doubt losing a bit of weight and firmer suspension means it will be a bit sharper.
Depends what you want from it and how much it matters to you. They look great though with the upgraded Speedline Turini wheels.

I think a good one of any of the 172/182 models is a great car. Pretty much the last of the big naturally aspirated engine, manual box, small light body hatchbacks.
