Oil and Filter change Bodged!

I took my car to a garage to have the oil and filter changed. (im lazy couldnt be arsed to do it myself!) Went back an hour later all done drove off didnt seem any different so i stopped the car had a look at the dipstick looks clean enough checks the filter and the b******s didnt change it!! I still had the old one on!!!!!

Went back had a go at em got my filter back. They told me theyll fit it for me as the guy was new and hadnt worked on a valver before (NICE FOR TELLING ME!) I told em to do one as i aint got anymore oil to top it up when i lose oil from the filter!

Does it matter if the new oil mixes with the old stuff in the filter?????

I used Mobil 1 oil and it still sounds like a diesel when i start it from cold first thing of a morning and idles erattic.

Any help? Cheers!

mines sounds fooking awful when its cold i hate it.

i changed the oil in mine recently but didnt boither with the filter, cos it was crap weather and i couldnt be assed, got another heap in the garage so i just dumpoed the oil and chucked the new stuff in. its not ideal really but its ok...

however if you payed the garage for a oil change then get them to do it for you while you watch - they cant bodge it like that!!!! name and shame i reckon aswell.

id ask for my money back, the filter will have dirty oil in it, partly why you change em in the first place, and if they havent changed it that will now have mixed with the oil they put in

at the very least you want the cost of the oil back as you can claim its now contaminated with the old oil

yeah man, id ask for the money back,

when my 16v had its last service, i asked too see the bits they had changed, i even marked the old oil filter to make sure...

the cheeky fecker even goes, do u wanna see the old oil !!

when i got back they had all the bits in plastic bags ! and they did a top service

I think most valvers sound a bit like a diesel on startup, I wouldnt worry about it.

As for the erratic idle, clean the ISCV out with lots of carb cleaner, this should sort that out. Do a search for it on the forum, as there have been a number of posts on it.

mine doesnt !! bit tappy till the oil circulates but thats nothing like a diesel !

dont worry about the old oil and new mixing.... shoundt make any differance.. as you will always have contamination from your old oil, unless you use a oil flush first?

i use Castrol RS fully synthetic !! works amazingly well...on my valver..

But i would see about getting your money back, what they did took the pi$$

mobile 1 (0-40) is too thin for this engine really...

the noise is the tappets not filled with oil and mobile 1 will run out faster overnight than a thicker oil and therefore is making the problem worse.

"Forte" make a top end treatment for worn lifters, try that... otherwise a decent quality 10-40 or 15-40 semi synthetic oil will help.

Yea thats wot im thinking.....The oil being to thin, I mite change it again and go for semi-synthetic instead.

you should stick to fully or semi... not swap....

fully syn is only really needed for really high temp turbo cars and the new long service interval cars like audi and bmw etc

Im sure the Fully synthetic oil ive got was 15/40. I just went with what the book said in Halfords!

It was either 15/40 or 15/50 one of em im sure. Unless the f**kin dodgy garage kept my oil and put in some of their own sh*tty £1.99 cash and carry special!

Its still sounding proper sh*t really like a diesel when cold!! Once its warmed up after about 5 min it sounds fine. I changed my plugs too and the things were dripping in oil.

My advise, you may all moan about them, but stick to the dealers!

Independant garage no experience with your car, at least at Reno you would have had the job done correctly with the specified oil and a genuine filter, might have cost a bit more, but woth it in my opionion.;)

yeah but reno charge bout £45 an hour labour!!!

Its not on tho mate, when you pay for a job it should be done rite.

If you supplied the oil and filter a dealer wouldnt charge much to change it for you.recommended oil is semi synthetic 10/40.you should report the garage to trading standards or somebody like that.just shows you how backstreet garages get a bad name.
