I've done about 2500 miles in the car now and I remember Andy @ GDI told me to change the oil after x miles but I cant remember what milage that was

I belive that most people use the same as is supplied with the car to start off with, which IIRC is a semi synthetic oil, but dont hold me to that. After the first service alot of people switch to a fully syn oil.

The Trophy is great, having loads of fun with it.

I'd chaage the oil ASAP then chnage it ever 6k ie between ever service.
The stock stuff isn't very good if you drive hard use Millers 5W-40 or Silkine pro 5W-40.

Hang on a second. Isn't all the factory fill oil for Renault Elf - hence the Elf stickers on the car and Renault recommends Elf in the handbook.

After that it is up to the franchise dealers what they put in the car come service time, but I would have assumed that when the car is new it would roll out of the factory with Elf 5W40 fully-synth?

..im sure its a decent oil, but its down to personal preference, usage of the car, there are better oils out there, you can take your own oil to the dealer, as edde recomends..silkolene pro-s 5w40

I'm sure I heard on here that they don't leave the factory with fully or even semi synth oil - you should only change to that after no less than 4-5k miles on the clock...

Yup.. a semi-synth will help with the running-in of the car AFAIK.

You might even want to add a drop of "mineral" oil to help things along...

I left-mine in until 8k, and it was runny and horrible... So, I'd say 6k is a good time to change IMO.

I only started using fully-synth @ 24k (err that's 6 months, lol!).

I refer to a first oil change. I thought the engine had to have some wear before fully synthetic oil is used.

I have covered 2700 miles, I assume this would be too early for fully synthetic.

If 6000 miles is about right to change oil, then it is going to take me well over a year, and I have a shed full of oil I want to use lol.

what makes you think that?

think you're thinking about mineral oil on old engines? Cant see why you couldnt run a fully synthetic on a new engine - its just a fully manufactured oil, purposely made to serve its purpose.

They Do Not Spend Millions Of Pounds Developing An Engine Oil To Recommend, If They Did Not Firmly Think That It Has Its Benefits.just Got To Add If You Want To Keep Your Engine In Top Notch,use An Oil Additive Called Slick50.this Bonds To The Internal Metal Moving Parts,acting As A Silicone.this Also Reduces Friction Which Helps Prevent Engine Wear.result A Smoother Running Car And Piece Of Mind.

Lot of people praise Silkolene, but any fully syth oil will keep things running nicely, just make sure it stays at correct levels. My mate ran dry of oil the other week on the motorway. His sump got punctured by something, his oil light didn't come on until his car was starting to sound like a spanner in a washing machine - needless to say he now needs a new engine (1.2 clio).

it also clogs your lubrication system, its crap!!!!

NO NEED AT ALL in a modern performance engine to use anything other than fully syn!!!

i have to agree not to use slick 50 or other oil additives.

use a high quality fully syn oil...

end of the day its only the cost of a tank of fuel that we put in once a week...

Changed mine at 6k. I'd heard that it's advisable to change your original oil early on, due to the micro fragments and shards of crap that work loose as the engine is settiling over the first couple of thousand miles. Could be an old-wives tale, but I can't see any harm changing the oil often...
