Oil leak from head bolt???

The other day I noticed a small amount oil had collected just above the silver bolt below the oil filler neck. Pretty sure I cleaned most of it out so I could see if something is leaking. It also seems to be making it's way southwards and collecting in a recess on the head.

An area of concern, something to be worried about? Easy to fix? Costly?

Below are photos with the before and after the oil was cleaned up today.

Reasonably common. Both my 172 and 182 had it. Nothing too major to worry about, i just left it (kept an eye on it) The overly anal get it done on warranty

Also its possible in that location that oil was spilt from filling it up on a service.

Damn, she's still in warranty, though with the mods fitted so far I doubt Renault would've touched her.

Especially that BTB exhaust you sold me which is probably causing the oil leak.

Luckily the car will be up for having the cams changed soon enough. I'll get it sorted then.

Seer, mine leaks from the very same spot. One thinkg you could do is undo that bolt and put gasket sealant at the bolt head, the face that seats against the head cover. This will cure the leak. I will do this the next weekend when I change the plugs as you have to undo the intake plenum to take that bolt off

I have done this and no leak no more, I have to say the bolt was not as tight as the others, anyway, I applied a little bit of sealant plus redo the bolt. Leak is gone!!!! Now my engine get dirt no more

they have a lot of people have done it, but really you need to torque those bolts to the correct settings and only ever do one at a time
that cover holds the cams in and under/over torque or loss of torque will cause premature cam wear

That bold seems to be the only one needing tightening, don't think that would affect anything as the rest would not even be touched, so no worries me thinks

The cam cover bolts should be 12nm if your going to try sealing them.
