oil leak

Has anyone else come across their rocker cover leaking on their mk2 172? Mines leaking, not much but I think its getting worse. I went into my local Renault garage and they said its a job what takes 7.3 hours! Has anyone done one themselves? Does it really take this long because at about 70 quid an hour labour its a lot of dosh just for a rocker cover!

yes its fairly common

speak to GDI in cambridge
or Rentech in portsmouth (i think)

its not a DIY job

i would say about 50% of clios have this problem....

if you fancy tuning work, then this is the time to get cams fitted as its the same job as changing the cams

How can you tell if its starting to leak, does the engine cover need to come off? Sort of thing thats worth checking before warranty finishes!

7.3 hours is crazy. Doesn't take 20mins on a Mk1 2.0!

What are Renault doing! Heh.

most leak a little oil, take your plastic cover off and check your bolts. Numerous threads on here with photos etc.

Mine has leaked a little from a couple fo the bolts for about a year now. Leaving it tho.

Because the cam cap is the cam cover...... its essentially the same job as changing the cam shafts

havnt tried, dont think you can get to the bolts, not unless you have a bendy spanner type thing..

you can't just "nip them up" as andy says, the rocker cover is the cam bearings/cap built into one

they all have to be tourqed correctly

you can remove the suspect bolt, silicone (thixo??) the hole and wack the bolt back in and tourqe correctly, this is the renault bodge

they have very light torque on the bolts 120 dNm, over about 30 bolts...

freds comments are worth a try.... its worth a go...
