Oil Oil Oil Oil!!!!!

  LY R27

I appologise for my lack of knowledge of oil and general mechanical issues, but I am going to change the oil in my Cup at the weekend (4000 miles are up) but I dont know which oil to put back in (mobil 1 etc). Can anybody offer me some guidence. How much goes back in etc????????????

By the way going to stick the ITG panel filter in at the same time.

I would try and get hold of some elf 5w40 (Ultima?) full sin. but i cant find any round my way anymore. Mobile 1 is to expensive I used to pick up elf 4 litres i think for £19.95. I think, but not sure, that the cup needs more than 4 litres though?

Merlin Motosport (recomended by ITG), they are making the filter via a special order (hand crafted), £48 incl vat & delivery. Have you any advice on my oil issue.

Sorry yeah, oil!

Mine has done 3650 miles and I was going to change the oil very soon. There have been a number of threads about this, one suggesting the same elf oil as you have.

To be honest I was going to use Mobil 1, an oil I have used in many of my cars but assuming some of these people on this forum know what they are talking about it appears that the elf oil could be a good option. My only concern is that this school of thought could be born out of lack of funds as opposed to it actually being the best oil.

Lets not forget that elf is only recommended due to Renaults relationship with them. I would never have used elf beforeand I very much doubt I will now so, Mobil 1 it is then.

Sorry about the waffle, how long have you had your Cup? Out of interest what were your previous cars, the Cup was my second Renault after a long line of BMWs, E30 M3 etc.

I have only owned one car previous to this one as I usually opt for a company cars (crappy astras etc). I had a peugeot 106 rallye!

Had my clio 2.5 months now, and I love the thought of driving it very day, just a shame I work long hours and dont get to drive it much during the week.

Do you notice a weird noise when starting you car from cold (maybe power steering, do you get this sound on yours?

How may little os are missing on your dash (oil level) when starting you car, mine has two missing?

I think yours needs topping up if youve a couple of Os missing? i always check on the dipstick, its always lower than the computer says...... hope this helps

i know what you mean about being recommended oils by people that they have used, purely because of the price of it

in my opinion, an ive read a hell of a lot about oils and tried plenty, id go with either Silkolene Pro S 5W-40 ( http://www.a-pp.comwww.a-pp.com ) or Total Quartz 9000 5W-40 ( most Elf/Total petrol stations )

the Mobil 1 IS good, but it is also over priced, if you can get to Costco then they do it very cheaply

Costco is where I get my Mobii 1. I generally change the oil and manufacturers filter evry 3K miles on my cars. Ok its about £30 a shot .. but cheap insurance when you cane the sh*t out of your cars IMHO ... equivalent to about a tank of petrol. How many tanks of petrol do you use between recommended oil changes? (172 + 36 tanks @ av 30 mpg, 12000 service intervals ~ £380) .... 10 times what you could spend on some decent oil!

Cuppy

Changed mine at the weekend, I used fully synthetic oil bought from a vw main agent, but it complies with all the requirements that it says in the renault service guide and was about 22 quid for five litres.

If you use Mobil 1, as others have said, Youll need more, mines taken almost the whole 5 litres to get the oil level up to the top reading on the level gauge/dipstick.

if youre doing it on ramps with the front of the car up only, make sure you remove the whole of the plastic crappy sump cover thing (4 bolts) cause it gets a bit messy if you just use the sump plug access point as I tried to.

I did my oil change at the weekend the second one I have done (I hate doing it as there is no room to move), used a hydrolic platform to get at everything.

For oil I always use Silkolene Pro S 5w 40, £40 for 5 litres but excellent stuff, very quick to warm up, 5 minutes, no lumpiness for the first mile and starts every time.

The whole 5 litres is required, well 4.75.

Thanks for all our help fellow clio owners!

I have chosen to opt for the sickolene Pro 5w 40.

By the way was the oil in need of changing (gonna do it anyway)?

  Skoda Fabia vRS

let me know what you think of it, ive recommended it to a few people on here before and all have found it to be very good

it takes just under 5ltrs....

once it full, start it, then u will need to top it up again as the engine is primed and the oil filter takes up a bit. to run it and let it settle again. then checck
