oil overfill

Car  monaco 172
Checked my dip stick this morning and it was bang on the lower marker.

So I had a 1l bottle of gulf race oil and started topping it up bit by bit. I'd pretty much emptied the whole bottle in and still wasn't at the top marker, so I just put the lot in.

I checked the level after about 10 minutes and noticed that it is a little fraction over the Max marker on the stick, should I drain it or will a tiny bit too much not cause any harm?

Its about 1mm above the Max.

Pretty sure the difference between the 2 marks is 1l

I just didn't want to blow any oil seals or anything by driving it

I had issues with mine, last top-up I done I took the car for a run,
stopped somewhere level and let the car cool - bonnet up 10 mins
top up bit by bit until its about 5mm below the max line
then take it for a run and check again

That was 2 weeks ago, I kept monitoring it, all was fine then 2 days ago I dipped the oil - it was halfway up the dam stick!

Your car likes a little drink Tigger, can you blame it lol.

Signs of a tired engine. A 1/2 litre a month is acceptable depending on mileage but obviously not ideal, keep an eye. Do comparisons while either hot or cold, don't mix them, oil expands when warm.

I mean halfway up the stick, as-in PAST the max marker haha!

And there was me monitoring it thinking my oil-breather plate was throwing it down the back of the head! (which it is)

People forget how long it takes for the oil to get down through the engine. Then check it too soon, put more in, then it's too much.

FFS, no wonder its coming out your breather plate. I'm surprised it isn't passing your rings into the cylinder. I'd get under the car and drain a good litre or more from that mate.

My sister done a similar thing once when she needed to top her car up put tipped the whole 5 litre bottle in lol.

Right messy job getting the sump plug back in while oil is pouring out.

Up until this week it was fine, even when running hot, it was under the max line!

How it goes from normal to overflow without any added oil is beyond me lol :banghead:

Only two way of it increasing when your sure the level was right is water getting into oil but you would see emulsion on oil cap or fuel in oil but it would have detonated or ruined the engine by now.
