oil smell in cabin

just noticed an smell of oil when just doing a short journey in my 172. the oil smells like power steering fluid, which i checked and seemed to be fine. i had the fan on in the cabin.
any ideas or feed back would be great.

give it a hoofing every week to clear the crap out of pipes etc (if this even works lol)

my 172 puffs out white smoke if i havnt given it a good run out

as soon as its had a hoofing, its clear for weeks

i did a 2.5 hr drive on monday so i ont think it will help, but thanks for your idea

no seriously, check the gearbox isnt leaking as that oil smells quite a bit.

Had this on my old 172, was leaky rocker cover burning off the access which dripped into the manifold, leaky rocker covers seem quite common on that engine (all 3 my old 225 Megane and 172, and current 182 all leak). Still get it checked though.
