couple of questions....

1. When fitting a Mocal oil cooler where would the best place be to fit the radiator? infront of the std radiator? arch liner?

2. When fitting an oil temp gauge, can i tap into a current wire or will i need a new sender unit? where would the sender unit be fitted? new hole into sump or an extension to oil pressure sensor?

thanks

Oil cooler rad fits perfefct under the cross member in front of the rad. Use some self drill/self tap screws and it'll be solid. Mies been on a while, sits perfect and its well fixed....

Want to fit oil temp and pressure gauges to mine so interested to know if I can use the sandwich plate!

Get yourself a riv-nut tool and riv nut the cooler to the bumper bar with through bolts to stop it moving.

You can take a temp reading off the take-off plate but if you want an 'average' temperature then making up a sump plug which carries the temp sender is an easy way!

Cheers

its crowded enough around the take off, i wouldnt jam anything else into it.

Just fit an inline adaptor for temp/pressure.

Dont fit temp at the end of a blind pressure take off, there is no flow and will not present a true temp reading.

Sump plug sounds a good idea, I'd jusy be worried about clearance! Bit of mud and it'd get smashed off, mines not even that low!

I'll get some gauges and have a look at senders next week....

Baggers, You've bought some beautiful gauges.... "
Latest Technology ,beautiful , LED Digital display makes for clear and brilliant definition display -when dark..Comes with a comprehensive ,universal installation hardware kit -everything you need to fit this."

Lol!

Cheap though...

With a cheaper oil sender unit I'd remote locate the pressure sensor so NVH doesnt speed up its failure rate.

no im sure there isnt one on mine either, hence why i had to get another sandwich plate with ports to fit oil temp and pressure senders

Geesus - you got 2 sandwich plates fitted now? Does that work ok?

i have indeed, cant tell you if its ok as i haven't been able to start the car yet (lost a grub screw from the sandwich plate so oil would just pi$$ everywhere lol)

^^ Thanks Mr Geesus, top man! :star: ^^

Before I shell out [another] £30, do we know if there is enough space in a 172 bay to accommodate both sandwich plates??

Just worried about BenR's comment:

its crowded enough around the take off, i wouldnt jam anything else into it.

:S

Anyone know??

Sorry, I should of been clearer.

That pic is crowded and there is less space in a 172.

Don't apologise! I appreciate your advice...

I have a Mocal oil cooler kit with braided hoses. I don't fancy the sump idea much as it would be 'vulnerable' (I'm on my 3rd sump in 12 months - I use the kerbs on track... :dapprove:)

Where else can the temp and pressure sensors go?

Cheers, Baggers.

TBH, i'd junk the braided lines......they are a pain compared to rubber hose with push on fittings.

I'd mount the pressure and temp senders in the oil lines either before or after the cooler dependant what you want to read (i'd do before then you know at least the true reading will be cooler). The pressure sender i'd do a remote take off from the oil pressure warning sensor port.

Aircon and PAS lines and a larger aux bracket setup mean you cant really have the lines going towards the offside of the car, and the braided lines supplied arent very long.

Thanks for that.

Now I'm sorry - I should have been clearer!!

The Kevs at Birchdown had my braided lines professionally modified to fit properly, so I don't really want to junk them at this point.

My car doesn't have aircon or PAS now, and is running a Cup alternator and brackets - so do you think I will have enough room??

Cheers, Baggers.
