Oil Temperature Gauge

  1.5 Clio Dynamique
for about the last month / 2months now my the oil temp gauge on my 1.2 mk2 ph1 clio wont go upto its normal temperature after about 10mins of driving (it usually goes upto just under half way), but at times it will bounce upto its normal level for a minute, then back down, then up.

Its not overheating, ive left it to idle and the fan kicks in as it should??

Any ideas to what could be causing it?

(its no spring chicken btw its done nearly 120k)

Its not the Oil Temperature its the Coolant Temperature.

Have you checked the coolant level? Top it up it is a bit low.

Sounds like something similar to happen to me. Driving along and my temperature shot up to maximum. Got out to see all my coolant on the ground. The thermostat on the side of the engine just above the gearbox had burst open and was giving a false reading.
Make sure yours is connected properly/not leaking as this could cause some issues.
