Oil usage!!! on 172

Hi all,

Im using 0W - 40 fully synth (Castrol Sport, something or other, good stuff). Anyway in the 2 month my cars go through basically 2 litres of the stuff!!.

Now the question is where the hell is it going? no leaks, no marks on drive, engine is clean as far as i can see. Car performs great doesnt sound rough or anything....

Any ideas? is this common? i assume its burning it or something........(but havent noticed any blue / black smoke at all)

Renault do say that the 1*2's can use up to 1 litre per 1000 miles which seems quite alot to me . My 182 doesn't use a drop , my 172 never did either .

Maybe try a slightly thicker oil 5w or 10w - 40 see if it makes any difference .

hmmm well id say in that time ive done atleast 1000 miles, if not more. But ive always been checking and topping it up so its never hit the min line on dip stick by atleast a cm or more.

0 weight oil is more likly to be the issue its to vischious when cold try somehting like 5-40.

Check to see if there any oil on the drive etc.

yeh no oil on drive, everythings squeeky clean under the bonnet 2

mine used 1 litre every 400 miles and it turned out to be a knackered piston ring.

maybe check your spark plug ends are all the same colour ?

well i changed the plugs about 2 months ago, number 3 was a little darker than the rest but not massively. Cars got 56k on clock.
