Ok finally the engine transplants going ahead

A while ago i posted about putting R5GT engine into a renault twingo. Well after being messed around by the company selling the engine to another person....so anyway my sensible cap went on  didnt really fancy the reliablity of the 5GT or running cost and rebuilding the engine before it goes anywhere near the car so,..................

Got a 1.6 16v engine from a clio coming through tomorow as had a clio with the same engine and that flew! Lighter car by far with the twingo....
Transplant shouldnt be to diffucult on paper....who knows when it comes to the real thing! Only think is im not sure if i need to run the clio gauges to enable the engine to run or have some do a bit of fiddling with the ecu?

so anyway going to fitting some new cams and remapping the engine aswell as filters, exhaust etc etc.....

Anyone shed some light on tuning for the engine that doesnt break the bank......

Lots and lots and lots of photos coming soon! and it should be at the next meet very very soon!

Thanks

good stuff!!

no advice either but can be a pair of hands if needed.

good luck

they have an in built immobiliser on the key, uch and ecu, its a transponder system, its an absolute ball ache to get round, several options, cheapest being £150, or run the ecu, uch and decoder ring and key.

Yea i loved it in both my megane and clio, got the clio way past 125 with it but acceleration was brillient!
Dan can you shed some light on the ball ache way of getting round it? as dont have a key!

Have you seen the size of a twingo? I'd imagine a 172 engine might need some metal work done to it. Might be a bit overpowerd to.

would have gone for the 2.0 engine myself... same work roughly.. 172 engine is hardly bigger in real terms and much better performance. i would see it as more of an achievement. its probably going to be similar in performance to a saxo vts.

to fit the 172 engine, would have to completey rework the front end, plus the brakes and basically stiffen the whole chassis as the is about 3 times the power going through it and its not exactly the worlds stiffest ethier, basically is a bog standered Renault 5 underneath, end of the day what determined it was the price....where not looking for tyre ripping performance just looking for something better then the shitty 1.2 thats in it already....

not sure how many people have been in a twingo but i sure as hell wouldnt want to go in one with a 172 engine in!

Depends if you have a drive by wire or cable IMO I'd bin the lot and go to a drive by cable and stand alone ECU anyway. Otherwsie gte a one with cable and use that as its easier IMO less electrics and easier to strip down.

No cheap tunning could go to throttle bodies if your going to stand alone ECU etc but realy IMo use the bigger engine the 1.8 T from the VAG range should fit ok its a hece of a lot more power the stronger ones from the TT etc will see 270ish hp with just mapping and there loads of bits out there for them.

The 172 engine fits ok. There no such thing as overpowered at this level of power.
