Old D-Link Router whats its IP?!

Have dug an old D-Link 504 ADSL Router out of the cupboard at work but have no ide what its IP address is.

Anyone got any suggestions as a possible way to find out?

Best way would be to do a factory reset it and then connect something to it and use DHCP, then check ipconfig/all to see what the gateway is and bingo..

My IP at the moment on my lan (192.168...) might be different to that of the machine (10.0...) should it still find it?

Hmmmm i know its been used for offsite stuff internally so I know its quite likely to be on a 10.something range..

so just look at your gateway - control panel > network connections > lan > support

Its not the router i'm using and we don't use DHCP.. already tried that

your router will have an internal lan ip of 192.168.*.* the external wan ip may be of the form 10.*.*.* or whateva

how have you connected it to your machine?

Wanderer - theres nothing that indicates that the internal lan range will be 192 based. It has a 4 port hub built-in of which i am cat5'd into.

I'm also connected through serial to it where it keeps saying "Retrain the line"

Does that config thing give you options to change IP addresses of the LAN side?

Dude i'm not even that close... i can't even log on to it... if i could, i'd know its IP I've just got lots of this..

probably wont work, but try going to device manager and playing with the bps of the com port.

well at a guess, 'retrain the line' seems to imply that the connection to the router over the serial port is not at an adaqate speed setting. So if you increase the speed range of your com port, it may allow the router to select a more appropriate connection speed.

I read it as the ADSL connection as that's trained..

9600 is the baud rate for Cisco stuff..

Ok guys all very helpful but its kind of mission critical we work out how to get onto this router. Its isolated and attached to another pc so I need some kind of scanner to locate it.

I can't replace it with a Cisco as 1) its not my money and 2) its not my router.

Now if we could get back to the task in hand. Thanks

I've got that running mate. As per my original reply..

If my laptops IP was 10.0.1.1 and the routers IP is 68.43.90.189 would it still eventually find it after scanning all the ranges??

The only plus thing is I'm pretty sure its on the same subnet
