One bad thing about the mk2 v6

  Many

Where ever i am, what ever road i am on; people always want me to race them or let it go. I am always getting arseholes up behind me when cruising along, flashing lights or waving, begging to race them. Most of the time its not even worth racing, normally its some fool in a corsa or an idiot in a bmw, Yea i like the odd sprint with another car but not every f*cking mile!

I had the misses driving on the A127 down to Basildon, some idiot behind her really putting the pressure on her, i said to her drop it down to 3rd and leave the tw*t behind, she was very nervous but managed to do it and a few seconds later the guy behind was just a dot in the dstance.

No doubt mk1 v6 owners get the same problem, starting to get on my tits a bit though, especially when you want a quite ride lol.

Well thats me short sad story for you.

i get a lot of people trying it on against the 182 aswell, usually bog standard run of the mill not particularly quick cars.

it can be very frustrating, I do enjoy a good play though.

1.9 TDi give up!!!

I just ignore them ... and sit there smugly cruising along with the Vee just ticking over.

Did have the a funny staring incident this morning tho. Came up to end of my favourite race track on the way to work. Comes to a cross roads with a tiny bit of dual carriage way. Look right ... was clear so I pulled across into the middle. Was aware of a car coming from the left ... he slowed down ... and down .. and down. I assumed he was turning left into where I was going. He wasnt!! Hed slowed down to almost stop in front of me and was gawping out of his side window at the Vee

Unfortunately thats the Essex way also... the 127 is a world-renound race-track!

In hampshire, you get plenty of attention, but few takers for a race! Id actually like a few more to have a go with me!

That was one of the factors that led to me selling my V.

I hated everyone either wanting to race you or speak to you about the car. The rarity and look of the V6 is one of the best and worst things about it IMO.

People that have never spoken to you in your life at work suddenly want to engage in interesting car chat - very sad.

My girlfriend also hated the goldfish bowl type of experience - everyone looking in on you wherever you went.

Any V6 owners that dont think twice about where to park it as well?????????? That also is a pain in the neck.

It is a nightmare, but you got to ride the bad with the good. Parking can be a pain; I normally park away from eyes site. Where i work you get a lot of Lorries coming in & out, you just know that if they my car they will either scrape the side of it, reverse in to or anything which will leave a mark!

I never get petrol now during the day; I try leaving it for later on at night. I hate getting out of the car, everyone doing there "judging me" look lol. Some days I like knowing that people are looking, other days would rather drive my old ford ka!

I get a lot of hassle when I go Basildon, it seems like all the young drivers ring each other up, find me and stick to me like flies to sh*t. Being the sensible driver i am (?), i normally let it go on a long straight, I don’t want the young inexperienced drivers trying to catch me up on a round about or corner! No wonder Basildon is full of speed cameras!

I would honestly be scared to leave it at nite...then again im stared to leave my 1.2 at nite. yikes.

Any nice car gets that sort of attention, unfortunately you have to just accept it or sell it and buy a car everyone else has........

  Clio RS 172 Ph2

I decided when I bought the car that I wouldnt shy away from where I go, or where I park it. If youre scared to leave your car somewhere, then the scum are beating you. At the end of the day thats what immobilisors, alarms and ultimately insurance are for!

As for the attention, Ive had 2 escort cosworths in my time, and they had similar attention - except no-one would race you cos they knew theyd lose.

Not many people know what the v6 is, or how fast it is, so your saxo & fiesta zetecs will have a go, cos they think youre driving a body-kitted 1.2 - not reaslising its a 3.0 v6!

Any V6 owners that dont think twice about where to park it as well?????????? That also is a pain in the neck. thats part of the reason why i only did 4000 miles in my v6 last year!! im too scared to leave it most places so i take the fiesta!!!

Ditto ... main thing that affects where I park is my fear of scraping my alloys (again ) and the ability to get back out of the space given the turning circle. Had to parallel park up in the Oxford the other day and thought Id kerbed the other side ... arrghhh ... but must have been a stone under the front wheels grumbling.

Im not daft ... dont want any car vandalized (again) ... so dont go taking it into the middle of Soton on a Friday night. But other than that.

All the attention Ive had has been positive thus far.

I find the attention can be quite useful - was on the M25 stuck in traffic the other day - 3 lanes of very slow moving traffic, but the lane to the right of me was empty.... because the guy in the focus had stopped to take photos of my clio with his camera phone, so I dived into the right hand lane which was empty for a good 600 yds!

Thats happended 3 times at least so far, and Ive only had the car 3 weeks!

Makes for handy queue jumping!

137699 where are you from in Hants? I dont suppose you have a iliad blue Vee and have drivien through Aldershot?? Thats only Vee ive seen round Hants.

Just the same when I had mine mate, the worst time was on a Saturday morning, went into the garage shop to pay for my petrol in Sainsburys in Basildon, and there was one very fat old haggered woman on one till... and the other till and fatter spotty bloke! There were two pretty long queues on both tills....and the fat bloke saw me in the other queue about 6 people back...and shouts out above all of them... hey you ...I pretended not to hear that tw*tt.. the he shouts again.. whats that kit you got on your car mate .... to say embarressed was an understatement...now I had a fecking big audience! he kept on for a good 5 minutes...(seemed like a life time!) how much you pay for that?? .. how fast does it go?? ... what you had out of it?? ...who you raced I couldnt escape having to reply to this tw*tt in front of the 2 long queues of people next to me!! Never went back there!! Wish the floor had just opened up and swallowed me up whole!! From then on... late night petrol fit-ups only for me thanks!

Problem with the Clio is that most folk have never seen one in the flesh.

People try to get real close to have a good look more of the "slow down I want to check out your car" attitude. Even on the first day of ownership I was sitting waiting to get onto a roundabout some guy came round and stopped dead infront of me. I was Fing and blinding and the Gfriend said hes looking at your car! - Sure enough he was sitting holding up traffic at peak time checking out the car :D

The car also has a major appeal to kids - If I drive up a street where kids are playing I always get the thumbs up and "cool car" - Must have Tonka toy appeal :)

Must say I seem to get a lot less cars trying to race me in it - Most folk wind there windows down to hear it.

Yeah, I did a few times mate... The guy was seriously obese had more yellow heads on his face than Id ever seen in my life...he could have filled a pint glass!! not the sort of guy you want to enjoy talking to! But.. everyone in there was listening as the guy was shouting like a fecking market trader... didnt want to sound like a arrogant c--t so tried to play it down as much as poss.

Meeting people that come up to you in the street is cool tho, met some real decent people, and enjoyed chatting with them about each others cars.

This is the sort of reaction Im getting most often - I get flashed at by lorries, and thumbs up and waves from other people who seem to think that because of what Im driving, I ought to be their mate...?!!?!

It seems to generate lost of inquisitive looks, and conversations from people whove never seen one before, or dont know what it is... but so far I have to say Im not finding it too intrusive, nor attracting the sort of unwanted attention from spotty boy racers and theiving scum, so I can live with it.

Fortunately my days of living in Basildon are behind me and I dont have to go there too often these days....!

eh, no they dont... doubt anyone here would say a 172 / 182 / 172 cup looks like a 1.2

anyway, I wish more people wouldnt even bother like you

Sorry, dont think I understand your post. My point is, I dont like the look of 182s. Whats yours?

My point is sharp.

My Dad gets a very similar reaction on the roads...though hes driving an M3 not a vee. Had some very random cars trying to race him, plenty of Novas and the like trying to have a go.

I dont think they look boring, I think they stand out a mile, especially racing blue/inferno/liquid yellow and are CLEARLY different to 1.2s/billabongs etc. Of course theyre not in the same league as V6s, but they do turn a few heads.

Its a sad world when you have to reign in your choice of car because of what other people might think as you drive it around. Its also a crime to buy a nice car and not use it and enjoy it.

You buy a Vee for the experience of owning something special and a little different. If youre worried about people looking at it, worried about no boot space, low mpgs, etc. etc. then choose something else.

My girlfriend hates the attention the car gets, laughs at how impractical it can be, but know -exactly- why I bought it. I find the attention it generates amusing, and its almost always good-natured.

Just sit back and enjoy the drive :D
