Downgrading iPhone 2G from 2.0 to 1.1.4 & Unlocking
Downgrading an iPhone 2G from 2.0 to 1.1.4 and unlocking/jailbraking.
A couple of people of asked me how I did this, so I said I'd put a post up - which is basically just the PM I sent another member
This is how I did it, and it worked for me, if you brick your iPhone some how, which in theory shouldn't be possible using any of this software, it's not my fault and I accept no responsibility
I used the guide here -
http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=457556
If you read that through from the top, it tells you how to do it, and there is a link to a guide to how to use WinPwn which goes to here -
http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=957
You can get WinPwn here -
http://rapidshare.de/files/39490251/...Setup.zip.html
and I also used iLiberty+ which you can get here -
http://theiphoneproject.org/index.ph...c=select&id=14
The top post on this page here -
http://forums.macrumors.com/showthre...=457556&page=8 - is mine
That should be enough to guide you through, but there was a little trial and error. iLiberty+ is great, because on it's 'Other Tools' pane, it has options to put it in recovery and kick it out and stuff, which as you'll see, are quite handy. But's it's easy enough to do yourself as well manually.
The advantage of using these programs is, even if you can't do it, it's all reverseable so you can just iTunes it back to 2.0. If you use ZiPhone or it's other versions and copies, it makes permanent changes to your iPhone, which is why it sometimes bricks the odd iPhone into an unusable paper weight.
You need to make sure at the start, your iTunes is upgraded to the newest 7.7 version, and then uninstall that and install 7.5 which you can find here -

If you follow that forum guide, combined with the WinPwn guide, and my notes at the end of that thread (the long post at the top of page 8 which I have linked you) you should be ok. One site I've read says that this way doesn't work unless the iPhone has been unlocked before, so I don't know if I just got lucky - although the guy I got it from told me that it hadn't been unlocked before, so hopefully you should be ok.
One final point which they don't emphasise, whenever it says 'Restore using iTunes' - you hold shift and click restore to select a firmware from your hard drive as opposed to downloading the newest one. And you want to be trying to restore the 1.1.4 firmware, which you can download here -

I think that's everything you need to know. It's important to get the steps right for putting it into DFU recovery, or it won't work. This site is useful too -
http://sleepers.net/news/?page_id=7 - and his DFU guide is easy to follow. iLiberty+ has an option to do it for you, but it wouldn't work for me heh. I can't think of any other pit falls. It really is worth having a good read of all those sites though, that's how I did it, then you kinda get a feel for what will / won't work etc
If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask and I'll try and help, I'm not an expert though, this was the first time I'd ever done anything like this, and I was an iPhone owner for half an hour before I did it
I'd been reading up for a couple of days though (not solidly for 2 days you understand hehe).
