Online shop building

  Skoda
My old dear wants to open an online shop to sell off her Clarice Cliff collection (Lots of it!!)... She doesn't want to use Ebay but wants to link it to paypal for payment... She isn't all that clued up with computers but knows the basics... Can anyone advise on the best thing to use to build it.. She would be lost in Dreamweaver or anything like that and I don't have the time to do it for her... I'm thinking a web based app would be best... Any ideas??

you can use open source e-commerce shops.

I have used cubecart for my shop - www.i-modish.co.uk but this has been highly modified to look better (as standard it looked crap)

and also used one called opencart for a shop i setup for my mate. this looks like it does now out the box, so really good. paypal can be linked up by just entering your paypal details! easy peasy - http://www.evobits.co.uk/

I'd absolutely stick to using auctions. The sheer quantity and quality of traffic it drives towards your sales will far outstrip any loss due to ebay and paypal fees. Making a shop and putting it online is not going to produce any meaningful traffic, and even heavy optimisation for popular keywords like 'Clarice Cliff' is going to be a desperate fight against vicious and heavily budgeted Google competition. If it's for a bit of fun, go for it. But if you just want to get the best money possible in the shortest time with the least headaches auction it off everytime.

If you still want to go the cart route, while Cubecart and OSCommerce do their job, a bulletproof method is just to use Paypal's shopping cart (login to PP to read about it). That really is about as simple as it gets and requires no PHP installation etc.
