Yes but £2k is alot of money to basically chuck away, you never get anything back from insurance, then £210 tax, £30 mot £200 for service

Guessing as your on'y 18 you wouldn't be earning great money yet (not ment to be offensive)

Your looking at £2500 before buying the car, putting any fuel in it, replacing things that break/wear out (and they do)

Being 18 you should be going out with mates on hol etc

But thats just my opinion.

Not legitimatly.

^ exactly. under mummy and daddys insurance you'll get it for 2k. but you wont 'technically' be insured. so depends on your priorities in life.

i'd aim for a 1.4 and some coilovers :approve:

I had to wait till i was 21 just for insurance purposes. Couldn't get under 2.5k then as soon as I was 21 it dropped to 1.3k. Not worth the money as said you dont get anything back.

why bother you would be better off saving your cash and getting the chepest car to insure you can then saving for a deposit for a house

But i dont want a house i want a car :) other options are a Mini, probably a cooper as i work for them so hopefully can get a reasonable deal on finance!

Stick with what you got mate....no point in rushing in and wasting loads of money....I personally would never buy a car if the insurance came to over a grand as it's money spending that you will never see again or get anything out of...

haha yeah but I didn't want to say that...tempting fate and all that!

I spose so, but thats what you pay the insurance for. I can see your point and that.

yup indeedy! just up to the person buying on much they want to spend I guess...

in this case...18 so will prob be about the 2k mark I guess, doesn't have an accident or the car don't get stolen or anything, next year 19, prob about another 1.8k at least, still no accidents or broken into, 20 drops to about 1/1.5k. so thats about 5k spent "just in case" something happens...alot of money to just give away...

just wait till your older mate, It makes more sense financially, do as DrRollo says, spend you money having a bit of fun/holidays etc...

I'm waiting patiently :rasp:

I'd go for a nice 1.2 do it up a bit ( tastefully mind! ) splitter , nice wheels , cheak the scrap yard for 1*2 seat's and door card's, and if your feeling really flush get some fluffy dice? ( joke) :)

Seriously mate, ive not been driving that long , but being 35 it take's the sting out of the insurence, it's still alot tho, and hopfully i'm a bit wiser than when i was 18, it's a fast car!

I know this is a renault forum lol but I had a 1.6 zetec-s and there insurance group 8 so really cheap and you can get them for under 4k now......i would however never have a ford over a renault now i have my cup :)

You will have more money than sense if you want to spend 2k to insure a clio.

Already done it once mate on my current and my first car. Being young sucks. Im just the sort of person who wants a change often and a 172 is ideal, but like you all pointed out it will be expensive. Maybe something around a group 8? thanks for feedback folks!

I personally think its too powerful for such a young driver (not meant to be offencive).. I know that if I had my 182 at 18 I would definitly have crashed it/... if not worse!
