Ordered my K-tec zorst! :-)

After getting my car back from Renault yesterday (not sure if it is actually fixed though) I was at work today and on a sudden impulse grabbed my phone and rang k-tec - and as a result am over 200 notes lighter but on the positive side my little dynamique will be wearing a new exhaust next week!

just wondering if anyone who has one has any pointers on fitting it and rremoval of the old one? i know there was something about cutting it to remove it but since i wanted to keep it just in case im not overly keen on that. any fitting issues i shoud look out for with the k-tec? and finally in terms of noise, what am i gonna think when i start her up and take her for a drive?! never seen or heard one in the metal so am a bit clueless!! lol. had intended to track a few down at a CS meet to see/hear them first but just got impatient today. Im all excited now!!

p.s. i went for the K2 twin 3" in the end despite originally intending to get the 6"x3"!

Got my exhaust today - thanks for getting it out quickly if you read this David!

Its now sat in the back of the car (only just got in from work). I rang round all the garages in the area and no-one will fit it for less than 50-60 quid + vat!!! i mean f*ck that, how can they justify that?!

So now Im wondering two things... Firstly does anyone know where I can get it fitted for reasonable £ round west london at all?! And if I cant find somewhere to fit it for less than 25-30 quid then i guess Ill have to try fitting it myself...

Anyone got any opinions on how easy it would be to get the standard renault exhaust off and fit the k-tec myself - bearing in mind i have no ramps/stands? how hard/easy is it to get round the beam as ive read bits about having to cut the exhaust etc? basically, all info/advice on this welcome peeps! wud rather just get it fitted cheap tho?

you cut the exhaust to get it past the axle beam.you really need to jack it up if your going to fit it yourself.easy enough job to do though.

You can get the exhaust off in one piece - no need to cut it.

u mean i have to cut the old one to get it off? so u reckon i could do it with just the jack then? havent even got a hacksaw at the moment, what would i need to cut it with?

more easy to cut it though surely.you can buy sleeves from renault to rejoin it if you ever want to refit it.

Am now preparing to entrust my new zorst fitting to a dubious spanner monkey at a local tyre and exhaust place for cash in hand... shud be interesting - 10 minute job he reckons so im expecting heat shield rattle, drooping backbox, and a distinct lack of gun gum!

Hmm, I was right... it does hang down too much... am going to try and sort it myself in the morning.

Its very erm... loud. Actually stopped once tonight to check the exhaust was stil on the car coz it was making soo much noise! Is gonna take some getting used to... once i get it to sit tight to the bumper!! grrrr

any suggestions?

yeah LOADS OF PATIENCE!!!! It can be tricky getting them to line up, the weight is all supported from the rear clamp (centre section/back box clamp)

Hard to explain how to line it up, you have to get the centre section mounted as high as possible (and make sure the clamp on the CAT is tight)

Use some cable ties

and start smoking to relieve the stress

cheers fred, i cant quite see how to make it sit higher than it is? does that bracket look like its in the right position? not impresed with this so far, looks a bit pony sitting a few inches below the bumper?

any tips on getting it right anyone?

I just had a go at lifting it higher (I = i watch while mate gets damp and cold), got it sitting higher now, just need to get it straight. Looks like i need to undo the clamp on the join to actually rotate it a bit? Seems a bit cold out for that though so for the coming week my exhaust will look like this...

right..here goes! From ur pics, id say u need to loosen the bracket, that wraps around the back box, and that will allow the exhaust to push higher (the back box should swing around the bracket) When i done mine, i found that once i had the exhaust was pushed up far enough, it rattled like a cooont off the heat shields.

First things, get it sitting as u want it. Then, grab a big screw driver, get under the car, and BEND away the areas of heat sheild that is touching / rattling off the exhaust (u should be able to push the exhaust up n down to identify these areas). Also watch out for the centre section clamp, as the bolt on mine was knocking against the car......basically just have a look and move things out of the way.

Like fred says, it takes time and a lot of pissing about, but, you WILL get there in the end! And yea, at first they are BLOODY loud, but you will get used to it, trust me

cheers for that guys, its not looking too bad at the moment, but still needs straightening. Ran out of patience/energy today so decided to leave it for now - ill straighten it next weekend.

You really notice the difference in sound depending on the temp of the exhaust, dont ya think? Im enjoying the popping on over-run for now when its hot! lol

makes lovely popping when you back off the accelerator in gear - nice!

just gotta pray that my fuel injection isnt as messed up as i think it is since it was reprogrammed last week, and i know for sure that the dealer will blame the exhaust now.
