Otterburn rally 04/11/12 197+ph1 172

Spotted a racing blue 197 cup parked at the bottom of the service area. Looked nice & clean. Had black wheels also.

Also spotted a odyssey blue Ph1 172 just outside the entrance of the service area, was quite low. Had a circuit sticker on the back window.

Anybody?

The 197 is mine, i was doing set up as 'Arrows 2'. Its not as clean as i usually like it, had a little excursion into a ditch on saturday morning on the road into tue airstrips.

Ahh i see what car was that in? Much damage or not? Was bloody icy on route to Otterburn and the stages looked fairly lethal!

It was in the clio, no damage that i have found yet. Just bounced across the grass/rocks/sheep sh#t broadside with an arm full of oppo giving it beans to try to get it out, the fact the ground was frozen was a bit of a saving grace.

The stages where a bit slippy, we had to drive round setting up the chicanes and doing the final checks on all the junctions at 5 am on sunday.

A few of the big boys packed up and went home early as they didnt want to risk damaging their cars apparently.

The only one i know that didnt start was Andy Fenwick in the Accent WRC, a few other top cars seemed to develop mehanical problems early on....

I didnt think there where many more off than usual, alot of the cars off where in the usual spots. That bit on the video were he has the moment is called 'crow stone', its flat if you know the place and are a wee bit mental (its one of my favourite bits on the ranges). The run down to Watty Bells wasnt too bad but the chicane at the top was sheet ice. Just gutted i wasnt out there competing as was the original plan, looked like a right hoot on the slippy bits.

Yeah i thought andy fenwick didnt bother cause we didnt see him on the first stage. John stone and steve simpson pulled out early on, was that cause of mechanical? or do you not know?
I heard that part was pretty bad. My dads mate Dave seed in the Mk3 escort had a bit of a moment there and ended up pulling out as he had to be tow'd out at the end of the stage.

Still looked awsome Yes was quite bitter, If it was windy it would of been alot worse !

Yeah true...its a mint rally and free so cant complain! The 197 up there was nice mines going off the road after Christmas its having a sex change into a track car

Thanks for the compliment about the car, not had it long and i'm still unsure about the black wheels....

As for John Stone and Steve Simpson, i know Johns retirement would have been genuine as he was well up for it in the conditions, apparently he had some proper cold weather slicks for the Fabia. Steve i dont know about, i didnt see the car on Sunday but had a good look on the Saturday and i think it has just been rebuilt so that may have been a factor.

If you both go to rallies regularly you will probably see the clio a fair bit. I co-drive in a blue 206GTI so come and say Hi if your about.

The RAC rally? I'll be going down to Dalby with Phil on the Friday night and following the rally back up the country in the 197, just sleeping in the car on the night.
