Clutch is a bit of a fucker to do at home, but possible.

Give Danny at 519 a call, he's only about 1 hour 15 away from essex, it was him I used when I had my 172.

  DON'T SEND ME PM'S!!
I'm 299 for cup cambelt and 450 for clutch. I have a lot of people come from Essex, most are only an hour away

Yep exactly!.clutch is only like £100!.i do most stuff on my own cars,so you do you reckon you can do a clutch at home?.
This makes me laugh. Costs more than that to buy one in. Then there is oil which is 11 a litre or something crazy now for decent stuff

From first hand experience Fred is excellent sorted a few minor niggles, although Dan is closer and only ever heard good things.

Wish I had gone to Fred for my belts - but thats another story!

Whats 519?

had a quote from Engine Dynamics today

Cambelt-£259

clucth-£489

and to do both at the same time is £698

£259 for a cambelt change? You sure that not just parts lol you would be looking at that just for parts not including labour. Just make sure you specify you want Dephaser and non specialist tend not to change engine oil and filter after depahser change, what defeats the point of changing it really :)

On cups its a lot simpler because there is no aircon etc, the aux belt "kit" is just a single belt with no tensioners which makes it both cheaper to buy and quicker to fit.

I was aware of that but £259 is still cheap. Specialist for both belts changed and dephaser on a 172 cup is still £450.

The dephaser puts the price up a lot, its not a lot of extra hassle to fit but its an expensive part in the first place.

My point is if you going to pay to get all the belts done your stupid for not paying the extra £130 and having the dephaser done also

I'd suggest going BTM, no offence to either Dan I hear their work is highly recommended but having used Fred a fair few times I can't speak highly enough about the guy. When someone tells you NOT to fit an engine because yours is fine and therefore doing themselves out of money I have to tip my hat to him.

Comes done to who can do it first ay haha, yeah both are ok with distance.Bedford is only an hour away from me & brimingham is about hour and half!.also how long would it take to do?,as i'll be bored waiting up there for hours ay

  Now Sold :-(
For what it's worth I've used both BTM and 519 and have only good things to report for both. I will take my car to either without any hesitation.
For you I guess it will depend on how far you are willing to travel and how you want to fill your time while you wait on the car being worked on. 519 is in the middle of some fields but much closer to you. BTM is in deepest darkest Birmingham (10 mins from my mums house) but is a few minutes walk away from a train to the city centre and a McDonalds.

Another happy customer from Dan@519. I used to be in Harlow and tomtom said Dan was 1hr 20mins. Even with traffic it takes less than 1hr. Would recommend him as he knows he's stuff and is cheaper than MF. Where in Essex are you?

Where about in Harlow? I'm only down the road in sawbo.

Not knocking feeds work as he has a great rep. MF is good to but unfortunately the price puts people off. Shame as he's only up the road.

I can't recommend mark fish enough to be honest he had my car just over a year ago had loads of work done to it which came to a fair amount of money but his work is fantastic. Hardest thing I find though is getting booked in for work he always seems busy lol

Sounds Like a good garage to me mate :) People don`t go back to bad garages that rip people off.

At least with Fred if leaving your car there ages you can wander into brum where there is plenty to do and iirc he still works Saturdays.
Would still make more sense dropping car off and picking it up next day though on a long job IMHO.
