I had a pretty eventful day this morning with my Mk1 172. I lost the back end on a wet country road doing approx 55-60.

I tried to correct it, but to no joy. next thing I know I had bounced off several trees with the boot then spun back round, then into the trees head on. Cars looking pretty sad now. :0(

I managed to get out with just minor whiplash and a cut/bruise to my head. Pretty damn lucky I think.

Now got to deal with the insurance company. how much should I try and settle for? car is a 2001 Y reg. 2 owners, full ren service history.

bad. bad luck mate. Get on autotrader and have a scan at what tyhe going rate is, this is partly what your insurer will do anyway. ANy good ads you see be sure to save them for evidence in case u need to proove it.

mate - very sorry to hear that. At least you are ok and will live to drive another 172. My cars still off the road due to being fixed after it was hit by another car. fookin horrible waiting for it to come back.

if you get a chance - let me know what happened - were you just going too fast, or did it just give on you? did you have any luck trying to correct it? Did it come all of a sudden. Only reason i ask is because im a relatively new driver and would be keen to hear what you have to say (in case enything like that ever happened to me).

looks like I wont be getting another 172. just got quote of £1k fully comp unprotected. Got a quote for a VTR Saxo £500..

now starting to feel the pain

You wuss - thats what Im paying with 6 years NCB! And yes, that is the cheapest I could get!
