Have you ever been in the dry?
Yes but not for ages and only in RWD cars.
We did have a few fairly dry laps on the last burpspeed day later on in the day, but it was more fun when it was wet and hence a bit less grippy IMHO, cheaper on tyres too, lol

Track looks pretty fun for a clio, car seems to pull along nicely in the rain with out much bother too!
Having 7850rpm on tap meant we were only chaging gear down to 2nd for the bus stop and then doing the whole of the rest of the track in 3rd!
Think most people were needing 4th gear on the longer straights due to the usual F4R tail off at high RPM that the standard engines suffer with.

Would've gone quicker if you had a pair of oars haha.

Nice to watch another of your videos with some lift off oversteer

On the 197 cams also?

My car used to go 7650rpm. made it much more drivable with those few extra revs.
Was advised that going above that could give valve knocking? presume yours doesnt get this. (ive probably got that term completely wrong)

Yeah its 197 cams with the RS2, we're still on standard valve springs and havent had any issues with valve bounce, if you planned on being at these rpm a lot though, it would be worth upgrading the valve springs to be sure.

Flol, later in the day the "gluepot" corner got properly deep, like literally an inch or so I reckon.

There was no real need for any, I was just playing about a bit feeling the limits of the car, to be fair though, it was really well balanced and was neither understeering or oversteering unless really pressed.
Couldnt fault it, honestly cant really think of another car I would have preferred to be driving, it was perfectly suited to the conditons :)

What sort of tyres were you using? Although I dont think anything would've saved you on that sort of surface and those conditions loll

We were on nearly new federal RSR 595 tyres, I felt they worked really well TBH, was very happy with them given the conditions, although we need a bit more camber on the car (but it doesnt get it as its my mrs daily driver) really as it did work the outside edge of the front passenger side tyre.

I think they are the best all round tyre I have ever used, they are excellent in the dry as well, not quite 888 good, but not a very long way off it.

Looks like you and Lesley were going well :)

Thanks mate, Les was struggling a bit with bravery earlier in the day as she hasnt ever driven hard in the wet before, but she was getting the hang of it by the end of the day.

You car was utterly epic in those conditions, just felt totally effortless and also seemed to be the fastest car out there, shows much much difference the diff makes, but also how good those meganes are in general.

Seems to have gripped well for those tyres in the wet mate.

Could the outside edge not have anything to do with the ammount of tow out you're running? If you're running any ofcourse

Other than needing a little more camber for track work (its setup for road) its actually a really sorted little car, not big spec, but all just working nicely as it should be, and TBH it blooming should be for the amount we have spent on it.
Bought it for 1.6K and have done about 5.5K on it to turn it into our interpretation of the perfect road 172 that can hold its own on track as well, we've improved things but only where there is NO compromise for it as a daily, still got the leather and aircon and comfy ride etc and still good on fuel :)
The mrs absolutely loves it to bits and im not far behind it, I think we both view it as the best all round car either of us has ever had :)

Its dialled in parellel, its just purely that when it leans over on track it loads up the outside edge of the tyre.

Andy, i found myself having to lift occasionally on the straights when i was following you, not sure if it was a better corner exit or if you are down on power though, might be worth getting it on a dyno to get the power checked out.

Nice work Chip! How's it running now mate? Still having TB issues or has that been sorted now?

I had a ball in the car with least power on the day. Thanks for the ride Chip couldn't believe you not having to change gear on the straights. The car handled well.

Panda looked to be going well for what it is mate :)

glad you enjoyed the ride, 7850rpm was certainly handy as it meant I didn't quite need fourth.

yes Luke, it was running spot on, all sorted now.
only issue we had was a dodgy starter solenoid but I changed that when we got back and it's all ready for the ring trip next week and spa the week after now. :)

I was losing alot of grip through my front left, need to do a trye swap front left for rear right (as it looks new) I'm also looking to get some camber bolts and shims to see if that helps in the corners but at the end of the day its a 129000 mile 172 so it probably needs a good tune up. Cambelt is due soon and looking to get a few bits sorted ;)

Ours that we were passing you in is 143,000 miles

(i admit we may have refreshed "a few" bits though, flol)
