def wont be going having my arse stretched to the tun of couple hundred on a new shaft, no chance!

renault do a boot kit for the outer. A universal one would work just fine as long as you get the best clips you can find and not cable ties

Is there a "Bodgable" fix that would do for a bit until sourcing a new shaft?

nothing i've tried so far. A LOT of black silicon sealer over a small hole works for a few weeks if you clean up the boot and rough the surface so it can stick, then let it go off for at least a day before use.

The double bonus of a new shaft is the outer boot on the new genuine ones are rubber not plastic like the shite originals, and also have a proper clip not the ones that always break

Mine held with heavy duty cable ties :S Why not use cable ties?

that's not a servicable one sadly. tried loads of times to find a suitable solution. New shaft is the only proper fix

Why cant you just replace the boot with a kit like this...

^ Feckin hell Rich mine was only a tiny nick where the outer boot clip is.
ESP & SERV lights were randomly appearing too but went out again when you turned off & on. Haven't came back on since the boot was sorted :)

Looks like new driveshaft time then..I tried cleaning up the abs rings today but that didnt help..im not too worried about driving around with them not working though....cant say I noticed any difference earlier..in fact im sure it helped my braking!

  Not got a car
I just had to replace the OEM clip on mine with a jublee clip, Done the drivers side last week and now the passager side clip went that i noticed yesterday.

FFS it was the dirtiest job I have ever done on a car, Green snot all on my wheels, all on the caliper, all on the disc. It never comes off just smear everywhere, Tried Gunk, Auto Glym machine cleaner.

how easy is it to replace the outer cv boot on the passenger side? Take it you have to take the cv joint out as well and put the boot on from the other end? how does the cv joint come out the driveshaft on 172's
